Did the people on the train randomly appear and then vanish into thin air?
That’s not apples to apples, my friend.

Of course not. My point is in the real world we share our space with others.
And besides that you are being obtuse. The issue here is not about planes or people appearing then disappearing, but planes parking on the runway or generally making a nuisance of themselves.
In addition, planes appearing, and disappearing is probably not by design, whereas those who park themselves on the threshold are not doing it by accident, though their motives for doing so may not always be nefarious.
I agree. Although users could be broken into two general categories, “simmers” and “gamers,” each would have multiple subcategories, as well - one person may have a single preference that’s different from another and that’s okay.
I’ve used the sim since the day it was released on PC and like to do different things on different days. Disliking someone that’s not doing the same thing as I am on a particular day wouldn’t be fair of me, nor would it be fair of others.
Agreed, however, this is not only an issue with people who actively want to ruin your experience willingy, because, even if they tried to play nice it would not work as long as ATC does not recognize online players and coordinate them accordingly. When you see ppl rolling onto the same runway as you do, then they might do it because they simply get the same ATC instruction as you do. If you are in a GA on a small airfield, you might be able to “communicate” with other players, by simply waiting. But on a busy airport, it is almost impossible to do your simming, without interfering with other ppl at the moment. Also consider, you might actually ruin other ppl´s experience in the same way as they “ruin” yours without even realizing it. In real life, you could not taxi your way at EGLL by giving hand signs, when every pilot gets same ATC Instructions, either. That´s the main advantage with Vatsim - it is coordinated for all users.
Sure you will also have ppl just gaming to have fun without realizing they might spoil yours, or it happens my mistake (I also managed a few times to accidently spawn on a runway, because the flight plan was reset without me noticing (or maybe just forgetting to reselect the gate without bad intentions - things happen))…sure, there might also be some trolls having fun at nose diving at landing airbusses for fun or even for angering you on purpose; but I think that should be an exception and that the lack of In-Sim-ATC coordination is the real problem.
So if I want to sim by the book, I turn off multiplayer in general and only use live traffic.
Same if I just want to train a certain approach etc. In that case, I might turn off live traffic, too, and soar the skies all alone.
If you want to fly online with other players within MSFS, I would suggest to select “All Players” or “Live Players” in the flight setup and then afterwwards in-sim go into the menu and turn off multiplayer from there, f.e. if you are starting from or landing at a busy airport as it will most likely not be perfect otherwise. You can turn multiplayer back on after take-off/landing in that case. If you select no players before starting the flight, then the menu option does not make any difference anymore - as far as I know.
Best option if you want to fly by the book with simmers trying to fly by the book, for sure, is VATSIM or a similar platform. But even then, especially on busy airports, you might run into some novice VATSIM users trying their best and making mistakes without intention to ruin your experience…we all have to learn and it´s everyone´s first time at some point.
Despite all this…I love procedures…generally have MP off, but it would be cool flying my Airbus, CRJ or boeing that a MP that love their fighter Jet came up close to my wings.
. Thank goodness its not loaded A to A missiles. God knows what that would create in this forum.
I would wave back…
Outside of those that are intentionally trying to ruin other peoples’ games I honestly don’t dislike anyone for doing what they do. If they’re an annoyance to me, I make them disappear. The tools are there. I use them. It’s not a problem.
Well technically as I said, it is at the end of the day a video game. If you don’t want casual gamers to harass you, simply turn off multiplayer because it’s pointless anyway. The whole point of multiplayer is to have fun with others anyway. You can’t possibly go online and expect everyone to follow real-life procedures. It’s not “dumb”, just common sense.
Exactly. The argument that someone wants to sim seriously, but also wants all these live players playing with their own unique ATC, traffic, weather, time of day, etc in the same instance is rather contradictory, IMHO. They add nothing to realism, and actually take away from it more than anything else. And expecting everyone to behave as though they were in a strict, controlled environment is frankly ridiculous.
It’s really not hard. Turn of MP in you want to sim. Turn it on if you want to play. If you want to sim with other live players in a real sim environment by strict rules, play on Vatsim or one of the other live ATC networks.
I think there are many who actually do want to join VATSIM because they’re tired of the nonsense that happens in stock MP but are terrified at how complex VATSIM seems. Seriously, if you want better ATC and a much more mature environment feel free to shoot me a private message and I will add you on Steam as I would absolutely love to help you. I can also link you to the many, many resources and the training organizations that VATSIM has.
Thats is a helpful solution for people who want to take the Sim seriously fed up with “simmers not doing your rules”
VATSIM is incredibly fun and strongly recommended it for those who actually do want to play by the rules…
I did not know this! I was actually worried I would have to speak (I’m very mic-shy, camera-shy all that haha) so this is great to know that I can just dive in, meet other gamers in silence and just fly around! Will totally check that out one day! Thanks for all the info ![]()
yes, you are right. When i said “dumb” i was refering to people having “fun” by bullying others different kind of “fun”. It is still “dumb” attitude. Nevertheless, you are right, one who wants to be more/serious, has just to switch off multiplayer and/or go on VATSIM or IVAO
i totally agree. At first , I had apprehensions…too scared, it was going to be “too” professionnal. But hey, after week only of “horrible” flights ( on my part), helped by a lot of very helpful and comprehensive ATC players, I can only RECOMMEND it to anybody who hates the ingame ATC, and “gamers”.
Start with not too crowded airports, and avoid special events evening at some airports…
Happy flying, fellow simmers or wannabee pilots !
As others have stated, I’ve had multiplayer turned off since the week of launch. I’ve only turned it on a few times if I were participating in a group flight, but it otherwise stays off.
true, it was not ment against just all gamers, but people that have fun in just messing up people who are more simmers than gamers. Indeed, not all gamers are “bad”
I wasn’t “being obtuse,” you’re clearly missing my point.
Perhaps you’ll understand what I meant if I asked a different question: Did the people on the train all behave in the exact way you’d like them to?
Hi @KatanaDV20,
This is the kind of thing I was mentioning. It’s a great way to fly with like-minded simmers, with no hassles. If you’re on Twitch, you can just listen in.
No pressure what so ever, and you’re not at liberty to come along, but if you do… fab!
You said there is no multiplayer in real life, I disagree. Unless you wish to become a hermit, you can’t turn off your interactions with other people.
Unless you want to redefine the word “multiplayer”, you are wrong. You can’t opt out of the real world into some Vatsim analogue.
We have drifted quite far off topic, into the real world, when the focus should be on the sim, and the ability to choose how we fly, either interacting with random people in the Internet, or opting for a smaller focused group of like minded individuals.
There are options no matter how you wish to fly, and nobody can force you to choose any of them.
Thanks for that
Will totally do that one of these days. I just clicked on the link and having a read! Nice and informal like you said, my kind of thing!
