Going by the shadows it looks like more low lying dense scrub than a few scraggly trees.
I mean. Trees next to the ocean are thinner and less foliaged then trees inland.
This was as close as I could get in Google Maps with streetview.
Looking north, it looks like they are actually pretty dense trees after all.
Another location looking North West. The trees are taller than the yachts moored by the far shore.
So the sim would appear to have the wrong tree type, and no where near enough of them. More dense bushes would probably look better.
I’m wondering if recent changes to the default biomes may have caused this as an unanticipated regression? 
Yes! I knew there was something weird with trees. Take a look around KDFW, there’s a bunch of pine trees. Also they seem to be placed in strange spots almost as if errors.
