What Causes a Circle with a Dot at the Center?

Hello,
I am hoping someone can help me. MSFS on PC. I have been using MSFS for a couple of years and I have not seen this issue before. Suddenly, when I toggle between cockpit and external, I will get a white circle with a dot in the center on the screen. Sometimes it will be on the external, sometimes in the cockpit. in either case, when it appears, the flight stick goes inop. If I move the mouse, it goes away. I have tried everything and can’t figer out why it is doing this. Any suggestions? Thanks!

That sounds like the cursor for the “lock” vs “legacy” control mode option. Not sure why it would suddenly start showing now, unless it got changed with the update. You could double check it in general options I believe. Maybe under miscellaneous, but not sure at the moment.

Do you refer to something like this?

If so, there’s been a setting since SU13 now:

  • For the AAU_02 update, we made a change to allow control of the cursor with all joysticks, and not only with gamepad. This change had the unintended consequence of causing the central white dot to display when moving the camera or when using a joystick/mouse at the same time. To address the issue, we’ve added 2 new options to allow players to customize the cursor behavior:
    • You can access these new options from Options > General Options > Accessibility.
    • SHOW THE WHITEDOT CURSOR IN FREELOOK (Default = ON): Display or hide the central white dot cursor when the camera moves.
    • ALLOW 2D CURSOR ON ALL PERIPHERALS (Default = OFF) : ON will allow to display the 2D gamepad cursor when using other types of peripherals : joysticks, yokes, etc. When set to OFF, this will be the same behavior as before AAU_02.

Thank you for the suggestion. I did already check that, and I even reset to defaults. This is not just a dot though. It has a white circle around it. I am using a track ball for a mouse, and the moment I move it, everything goes away. Also, the menu bar at the top of the screen used to be off when I switched between cockpit and external, and when this problem occurs, the menu will be on, but the moment I touch the trackball the screen top menu also goes away. I think I might have some kind of file corruption.

I don’t know if I can link into the TL3 category, but there’s a screenshot of an Xbox screen with a cursor that looks exactly like what you’re describing. White circle with a white dot in the middle. It almost sounds like the sim is seeing your trackball as an Xbox-type controller.

Thanks to those that responded. I did find the issue. Somehow I accidently bound the Cursor Toggle function to my camera view button so when I was changed views, would Cursor Toggle, and when I changed back I would Cursor Toggle again, and when I would move the mouse, if would disengage. My bad, but at least I was able to find it, even though it was by accident. Again, thanks for the help!
