AI trying to land, pulls the plane into a stall trying to land at 1,400ft…
I got back in the A320, flew from Edmonton to Calgary, couple loops around down town after visiting the airport. (I reloaded there to avoid ATC problems, gate 0 according to the game gate B38/40 irl)
Probably against my better judgment, I decided to fly from Trenton, NJ (KTTN) to Montauk, NY (KMTP) in my on-going 50 state tour. Trouble is, Montauk’s runway is just 3246 feet long, which depending on how you look at it, is (just maybe) within specs for the Longitude (insert gnashing of teeth emoji). We landed on RNAV 24 - PLANTING the landing and definitely warming up the brakes. But we made it! And even managed to slide into our parking space! Welcome to Montauk. Connecticut next!
Flew from Wilmington, DE (KILG) to Trenton, NJ (KTTN) in the Longitude. At 20m1s, this one was quick. Flew at 15,000 feet. Flight went very well, with the exception of forgetting to retract flaps on climb out, ATC cancelling IFR, and me forgetting to get landing clearance. Other than that (lol), by the book and a pretty butter landing on a short (for the Longitude) runway (4800 feet). Next off to Long Island! YT link of full flight:
VFR flight from Garm to Osh in the Cessna 208 B. I decided to do a return flight to Garm, not realizing that the sun would be setting by then. Needless to say, had to land at Garm in the dark, which was a landing challenge all in itself! The airport codes are UTRA for Garm and UAOH for Osh, for anyone interested. I found Garm by accident during the flight from Bishkek to Kandahar.
Broke win 11 lol so rolled back to win 10 (it was actually the roll back proc that broke 11). Got that fixed and then did some of this…BTW did you know if your in C*422 and 8 bit color windows wont recognize that the set is an hdr lol …
Today I hit 2000 hours in the sim. It has been over a year of lockdowns which has certainly helped get the hours in and the sim has absolutely helped with getting through the past year. I am not sure why the bush trips and training modules are not up to date they have all been completed as well as all the achievements. Its been fun and will continue to be so. (With i am sure the odd update causing a few issues every now and then). (If it had been a car I may have givcen it back to the garage by now!!)
Just had a fabulous flight from Jomsom VNJS, Nepal to Dolpo VNDP in the Porter. I failed last time with the Grand Caravan that skidded off the runway at Dolpo after a long flight from Simikot VNST.
I almost had to circle around the main mountains out of Jomsom because the plane couldn’t climb. Made a nervous landing just making the runway and applying everything I had including the brake lock and I stopped a few yards short of the cliff
Superb flight and made even more memorable with the great freeware you can pick up over at Flightsim.to by Sergio
Quick Scandinavian flight from Stockholm Arlanda ( ESSA) to Copenhagen (EKCH), on VATSIM (1h04).
Unfortunately i was too late to have ATC coverage upon approach and landing at EKCH. Next time better luck. Oh…and I tried the autoland from FBW in Live weather ( wind 360/20kt with 30kts gust winds).
It landed sliiightly on the righ of 04L centerline, but the autopilot corrected it just after touchdown. Considering the weather conditions, it was a perfect landing ! Thank you FBW for such a great add-on…now it just needs to be able to perform a hold automatically, and it’ll be PERFECT !
Haooy flying you all, fellow wannabe pilots/simmers!
I finished my flight to Honolulu (from Vancouver). There were some weird weather changes along the way, sudden changes in air pressure causing the alarm to go off due to the altitude suddenly registering up to 500ft higher or lower.
The AP didn’t seem to be following the route, taking a strange straight south heading at 140.0 degrees west from 40.0 degrees to 39.0 degrees north. It’s part of the high altitude IFR route, 40N40 → 39N40 but no clue why, there’s nothing there. The bug is the VFR map not showing it.
Actually ATC did tell me to climb back to 4,200ft when I figured I either descent now or overshoot. Or rather my co-pilot acknowledged climbing back to 4,200ft. At least I couldn’t hear the expedite your climb calls… Great landing, without landing clearance nor any communication.
Yet the logbook didn’t pop up during the shut own procedure, but it did log the landing. (It usually doesn’t without landing clearance) This game works in mysterious ways!
Great flight. Silver lining, the game always keeps you guessing!
Took the Spitfire from W16 in Monroe, WA. VR. Live time and weather. 14:00 absolutely clouded over, rain, miserable,….typical. Just took off. Didn’t pay attention to which heading I was on, it’s usually 07, until the 6k ft mountain peaks just appeared out of the overcast! I was out of 25! Ok. Clipped some trees swinging around to the west. Turned on my VFR map to get orientated. Still climbing to 7k. Then I broke through the clouds! Looked just amazing between the two overcast layers. Grey clouds that looked like Mt. St. Helens erupting. Finally realized where the compass gyro (I think) was on the spitfire. Flew west. Then south towards Boeing Field. Using the VFR. Dove through the clouds and then the very foggy 400 ft ceiling to see the approach lights and landed 32R… safely. But that first part I actually felt scared! Not knowing where the mountains were. All grey till you see some snow caps and PULL UP! Pretty fun.
Quick flight from Montauk, NY (KMTP) to Danbury, CT (KDXR). CRAZY short field takeoff in the Longitude took a few years off my life. Smooth flight. Planned to cruise at FL190 but ATC instructed us to begin our descent shortly before we got to cruising altitude. Smooth approach, though a hard landing. With only a 4421 foot long runway (we shot the RNAV into 08) I felt a need to plant it. Super narrow parking space (I’m guessing KDXR doesn’t see many Longitudes). Rhode Island next in our on-going 50 state tour! Welcome to Connecticut! YT link to full flight:
I continued my tour of Germany and crossed into Austria after flying from the very north of Germany to its southern border. Today’s trip started where I stopped the last time - Vilshofen Airport situated right on the riverbank of the Danube River in overcast and grey weather:
I followed the Danube to the city of Passau, marking the german-austrian border. Here I turned south following the Inn River to get to Schärding for my one and only stop over Schärding-Suben Airport (LOLS):
The grey overcast weather was clearing up from the south, with the airport right at the weather boundary. The next leg entailed to track back the Inn to the Danube, then turning south east following the river all the way to Linz in Austria, landing at Flugplatz Linz Ost (LOLO) with its quite interesting arrival/departure pattern. As Vilshofen, Linz Ost is too situated right at the riverbank:
