The next leg of my Americas trip was San Francisco into LAX, unfortunately just after grabbing this…
Hearst Castle
I crashed, or at least my PC did - I think switching between VR/flatscreen and zooming in and out with the drone cam was too much and it just said, “nope.”
Thankfully Mr Hearst had his own airfield at the bottom of his, very long driveway, so I was able to start the leg from there today. Before setting off I grabbed the shot I’d been trying to get when the PC crashed.
Continued along the coast, low and slow, looking at some of the huge houses around Malibu and then into LAX after a quick flypast a well known landmark.

I went for a hop across the channel in my Spitfire, from Southampton EGHI to Alderney EGJA. Visual and compass navigation only. It’s quite easy, fly over the island due south (can line up the pointy bits and keep going straight from there), turn right at the edge of France, and the little island is directly in front. I had to dodge some low cloud over Cherbourg.
It’s been a while since I flew the spit, I’d forgotten how well it trims for hands off flying. I’ve got some other planes that really won’t trim to fly hands off at all, which doesn’t feel right.

Still fooling around in the SDK with my local airport, I got the idea with the Juice Goose to open up the dirt paths that MSFS has covered in vegetation. Now I can go zipping around, do some plane-spotting, without dragging down the taxiways hahaha
Rolling out the Red Carpet at Catalina.

Is that the FlyingIron Spitfire or another Dev’s? I’ve loved my time in IL-2 Sturmovik with Spitfires but for some reason never bought one in MSFS (probably because I like my yoke and throttle quadrant more than my HOTAS,) - but it may be time to do some research and put that right.

It’s the Flying Iron. It’s one of the best aircraft in the sim. Get that and inibuilds EGHI and you’ve got your weekend sorted.

What did I do in MSFS today? I tried to clean the mess, fix artefacts, search Internet for local pics of this field, add details, move this and this, watch tutos to improve my SDK skills.

When people say they’re flying in New Zealand what they usually mean is that they’e flying in South Island. So I thought I’d give North Island a go.
I dug out my PAC 750 XTOL - it seemed the appropriate choice, you might even call it a local legend - and flew from the northernmost airfield in New Zealand, Waitiki Aerodrome (NZWQ):
which for some reason has its airfield on top of a hill and all its parking spots well down that same hill, and travelled 108 NM to Whangarei (NZWR), with its altogether more conventional parking:

Rome to Genoa in the TBM 930
The approach was very beautiful with the mountains and the clouds and the rain showers.

No way to ask take-off clearance so I just went ahead and took off
Some actual IFR conditions here
Quite the wind!
At least it gives the sea some character this time:
Some nice looking weather features, but I would LOVE to see cloud improvements in FS 2024
In real life, I’m not happy with fall / winter, but in MSFS I like it:
Clouds looking somewhat strange though
Fluffy
I hope ATC can be trusted
Expedite my descend!! OK THEN ATC
Nice to look at but really not a lot of ground clearance here
Even a boat
Great flight, next stop is Genova.

Los Angeles to Tokyo Narita. The longest flight yet, over 11 hours and got a lot of house work done. No runs, no drips, no errors. Encouraging for other long flights like LA to Tahiti, Osaka to LA - yeah, I live in LA.
