I flew around parts of the Swiss Alps at dusk in my Hawk T1 from Just Flight.
2020, Continuing Fenix A-320 week. Just like riding a bike, it all came back after almost a year of stick flying. Thanks, Fenix!
Did Cardiff to Caernarfon in the nxcub. Only found out days ago that the camping utilities add on is back on 2024 so I did some camping on Dinas Dinlle beach. Brilliant as your avatar can now walk around his or her campsite and tend to the dogs ![]()
Lovely little airport, just mind the wind turbines
Rochester (KROC) to Charlotte (KCLT) in the Fenix A321
Re commencing my chronological order of flight in 1965 with the BN-2 Islander.
Being an ‘island hopper’ I thought I’d google its popular routes…Sumburgh (EGPB) to the Outer Skerries (EGOU) was one, so I googled a map …. now this did bring a smile to my face.
Which I subsequently plotted in Little NavMap I wouldn’t say it was a short take off, but it flies nicely, picks up the GPS route easily. My only complaint, it won’t level out Altitude when VS reaches the target height. So you have to monitor the Altitude and press the ALT Hold button when you get there - it does say this in the user manual. It was a very short pilot this time, making forwards visibility difficult …. subsequent flights my pilot used a couple of cushions to sit on (hit the up arrow key). There is the erm … ‘Hamlet’ below as I start my turn for the Outer Skerries.
The Islander does have a very short stopping distance, as the screenshot below shows, and I didn’t land anywhere near the start of the runway.
A drone’s eye view of the Outer Skerries, with my little white Islander on the runway, top centre.

KBML → 59B Scud running from New Hampshire into Maine on a 75nm VFR cross country with no GPS and no radio nav. METAR reporting 600 foot ceilings. Yeah, we’ll see about that.
I can see the tops of those hills, lets go for it.
Yep, I’m regretting this
VFR checkpoint #1. Really, really challenging my dead reckoning abilities.
VFR checkpoint #2. I picked checkpoints on lakes due to the low ceilings to avoid flying into terrain.
VFR Checkpoint #3. Option to divert, but we made it this far so why not push on…
Completely obstructed by clouds ahead, probably have to turn back…
Miraculous hole in the cloud deck just as I overfly VFR Checkpoint #4.
VFR Checkpoint #7.
Home sweet home.
