@Dillet1974 - one landing at SEA, I remember it did give me a ‘pop up’ notification saying to ask for parking authorization … but no idea how to do that???
I have done many Cessna landings and they are logged, Taxi to the parking area, a ground person is there with batons/hand held red cones to guide you in to your parking spot.
Or once on the ground let the AI control ATC and Aircraft and request taxi to parking.
Thanks @Exige4 - I taxi to the parking area, but have never had a ground person there. I just stop at the end of the blue arrows … maybe I just need to wait there till someone comes out?
Well the logbook initself has a few issues even if you are doing everything by the book. Occasionally you just end up with one takoff and no landing
I guess that is the reason why so many folks have asked for a way to edit the logbook or at least delete the incomplete entries…I have to admit it simply bugs me to have uneven number of TO/LDG
As or the C152 shut down, the proper procedure is indeed to pull the mixture to cut off so that the engine stops because all combustible material has been used.
Only after that do you turn the magnetos off (key to the left)
Then lights and Avionics OFF and Alternator / Battery off. If all is well the menue to go back or continue should open automatically without the need to press ESC.
The normal progression on a towered airport is that you remain on the tower frequency until you are clear of the active runway, the entire aircraft behind the dashed side of the hold-short line, and then you are told to contact ground.
This may be the same frequency, even in real life, or a new one you need to set your com radio to. Then you can ask for parking, fuel or gate depending on your needs.
In the sim once you clear the active the blue taxi ribbon already shows up, but if you do not ask for parking instructions it seems the log entry doesn’t happen if you simply park in the spot the arrows guide you to.
Thank you @SaratogaPilot87 - I just tried a quick flight from GEG (Spokane) to Felts Field - but I guess I am not asking for parking instructions, I’m just following the blue ribbon. I think that’s my problem. I just looked up how to ask for parking instructions, I think I see it now. Let me try it again …
The 1000$ question is: Why did they make it this way?
It would be much better to let the pilot decide when (s)he’s done and press the ESC key.
Getting the plane to a complete stop after landing on any runway should be enough to save a trip in the logbook on exit. Maybe after prompting the pilot.
I mostly fly the C172 with a Honeycomb yoke, and it’s a minor annoyance that I don’t get a chance to shut down the plane completely with the switches on the yoke panel. And if I forget to switch alt/bat and starter key afterwards, they may be in the wrong position when I enter for my next flight.
For some reason, not all airports give you the option to request taxi instructions to the gate. I’ve flown into several medium/large airports in the U.S. where - if you turn on the taxi ribbon - you see a path to a ramp or gate parking, and tuning to Ground only gives you the option to request takeoff instructions or something. Once you park at the designated spot you can request ground services like jetway or air stairs, baggage, fuel, etc.
But once you’ve shut down the plane, you still don’t get any kind of pop up recognizing completion of the flight. You have to press ESC to the menu, then manually end the flight.
OK … I got it. I need to open the radio panel with and request parking instructions. That was the step I was missing … it’s working now! Thanks all for your input!
Not sure at all if it is likethe old sims where parking spots would need to be assigned to specific aircraft types … I think AFCAD had MIL, CARGO , GATE and GA or something like that.
The parking code also had to be in the CFG file for the aircraft in order to be able to get a MIL slot for example.
If at those airports you mention only certain types are assigned and your aircraft doesn’t fit the description ATC will not give you that option … possibly.
Shutdown PC and go do your homework, go to school tomorrow!
Three hour flight to San Fran yesterday. The gate I was directed to had another user parked in it. I wheeled into the gate next to him and shut down. Nothing… I had to exit and was rewarded with a departure with no landing recorded. So I am pretty sure they require you to park in the green box to get awarded a successful flight.
— well, I’m 58, have my MBA, and am CEO of my own company. But yes, I do need to review some financial reports tomorrow.
Well, I can usually see the taxi ribbon directions to a gate, but ATC doesn’t give me the option to request directions. So if I have the taxi ribbon off, and turn off stuff like the on-screen destination marker, I’ll just have to self-navigate to the terminal, pick and empty gate and hope for the best.
I do find that some airports, CYXJ comes to mind, do not have designated parking. Usually uncontrolled but even some uncontrolled have parking boxes, CYDQ as an example. If I do a proper shutdown anywhere at the ones a designated spot, I get awarded, but if I shut down anywhere other that in my assigned spot at ones with boxes I do not end up with a landing awarded. HMMM?
I too have a logbook with a mind of it’s own. I can do identical flights, great ILS landing on assigned runway, park, shut down, and when back to home screen, occasionally I will be credited a landing but mostly I won’t. Luckily last night I did CGK to DPS, VOR to VOR high altitude IFR/ILS and got a landing credit. I also always choose my own runway for landing and never let the flight plan do “automatic,” so I have no idea if that has anything to do with it.
We should ask Asobo: What is the trigger for landing regarding the log book entry?
When flying on a virtual network like IVAO or VATSIM the default ATC is not used. I don’t want contacting ATC to be a trigger for a landing. It should be touchdown on runway, leaving via taxiway or parking on the apron.
Yes the log book is buggy. I had several 1 hour flights without a landing which were logged with vicinity after 30 minutes. Maybe ALT+TAB out of the application or changing settings or options during flight triggers problems here. Debug mode is off by the way.
I have never seen any popup at the end of a flight. ESC with engine running resulted in more successful entries than performing a shutdown procedure. Flights are logged most of the time but with less time than really flown. Sometimes the landing flag is missing.
Airplane type matters, if you landed an airport that doesn’t offers you the parking means you can’t park at that airport, refuel and take off for another airport nearby that support your airplane type
Too bad I have to use LNM to find out this
There is a reason, as pilots, we always record “time off” and “time down”. Where I start or where I park has no bearing on my logbook. The sim should be logging hobbs time and flight time, no matter what other actions are taking place.
You can make the logbook predictable by turning on the objectives in the topbar. It tells you exactly what to do. If you follow the instructions a logbook entry will be created. However … in some cases it is impossible to comply to the instructions. For example, you want to taxi to parking, but the sim thinks you want to take off again. For me, this method leads to predictable results. YMMV.
