What does WASM actually mean for XBOX users?

Hi All,
Appologies if this has already been asked before, but what does WASM actually mean for us XBOX users? Will it allow PC products which we’ve been long awaiting such as the FSS E175 or Aerosoft CRJs to come to the platform? Or will it allow a free products such as those available on flightsim.to to come to the XBOX?
Thanks for your help

Here’s some information/discussion that happened when they first started addressing WASM on the XBox.
Regards

Hello @masj08,

WASM is an acronym for WebAssembly. It’s a development toolkit used by creators of some MSFS addons. Previously, it was impossible for the Xbox console to execute WASM code for security reasons, which meant many popular addon products which used WASM were limited only to PC. This was changed with Sim Update 12 when WASM support was brought to Xbox. Now 3rd Party Developers whose products depend on WASM can also release their products for Xbox if they desire.

Has not WASM always been available for XBox? The PMDG 737 series is 100 percent WASM, and that title was released on XB long before SU12.

I thought the problem was that there was a bug in WASM on XBox that made some WASM-based add-ons misbehave in recent iterations on that platform.

Hello @HalberQuacky,

The PMDG 737 released for Xbox on May 25th, 2023. Sim Update 12, which added WASM support on consoles, launched two months prior to that on March 21, 2023.

Thanks,
