Hi everyone, I have what I thought was a decent set up, however I can only get low 20’s FPS at 1440p on high settings, ultra takes it down below 15fps. Thai is over built up areas.
Ryzen 5 3600
RTX3070
16GB DDR4 3400 ram.
I will be upgrading to 32gb ram after Christmas but I wanted to know would a new processor help things? I know the 3600 is not a powerful processor but it’s decent.
What would you recommend I change to finally get me to a consistent 30fps and get me up to ultra on 1440p.
Thanks
James
as I replied to your other post:
Should be able to get that on your system (I’m getting that on a 3600 with 16GB 3200MHz RAM, and a Radeon RX5700XT. Your system should be well able to get that).
Make sure you have AA turned off (application controlled) in your NVidia control panel, and set it to TAA in the sim.
Also make sure you have the correct RAM profile (XMP profile) set in your BIOS.
Another thing to check is to have the glass panel refresh rates set to medium (it really doesn’t need to be on high, and hits the CPU pretty hard).
For the extremely heavy photogrammetry areas you might be CPU bottlenecked.

I’m getting a constant 30fps on my setup (I limit it to 30 in game for lots of good reasons as I’ve posted elsewhere)
I’m on a Ryzen 7 3700X, 32GB of 3600MHz ram, and a 2070 super graphics card. I’m running on a 1440p monitor @ 2560 x 1440 with a mixture of mostly Ultra/High settings.
First check that you are getting the best out of your current setup, I would have thought you could get a fairly consistent 30fps with what you have.
Check all your drivers, make sure you have the latest AMD chipset drivers too.
If you want to upgrade from there I would suggest a New CPU and 32GB of Ram. If your MBoard can take it one of the new Ryzen 5000 series CPU’s would be worth looking at.
First of all you need to find out what is bottlenecking you. From there make decisions.
Your system should easily do it. Im on a 1080ti, with 32g ram and a 7700k processor. Running ultra with sliders at 200 (not render scale, that’s still 100) and I sit at about 28fps in heavy areas running 3440*1440.
Your system should eat mine for breakfast.
Hi, thanks for your help, it has made some difference, but now what I would expect, maybe I’m expecting too much
I have taken some screen shots of my task manager and my cards maxed out, I may need to part ex for a 3080 instead.
You’ll always be limited by something. Being GPU limited is a good place to be.
What FPS are you getting after the changes? Still not up to 30FPS? I would just drop a couple of settings tbh, unless you absolutely can’t live with a small drop in quality. Just try some, the difference between high and ultra is not really noticeable for a lot of the settings.
If you do decide to grab a new GPU; the new Radeon lineup will be released in 2 days, so wait for reliable third party benchmarks before making a decision.
This is almost the same as my setup except I am only using half the RAM @3200 MHz but that seems to make no difference. I am constantly above 30 fps unless i am in a very heavy area such as new york city downtown and everything on ultra. I wonder if the board / chipset or setting could be the problem…
Well after reading a couple of fantastic guides and what setting are the best for limited graphics loss/GPU performance I seem to have hit a sweet spot!
After making the changes and it making no noticeable graphical changes I’ve set my fps to a maximum of 60fps and get in average 50/42 over a city! Whoop!
Interestingly if I limit my FPS to 30 I get 24fps, so strange!
