What has your VR experience been like in Microsoft 2024 so far?

Same here, They found a way to make something that was already bad worse.

At night I have green and red light glitches just on my face at random times.
(HTC VIve)

Yeah I wouldn’t really even count that as a workable workaround at all

I’m not certain if it is VR specific, and if it occurs in all planes (haven’t been able to try this out in other situations yet), but the mouse cursor is extremely laggy after entering the cockpit until the aircraft ( the C172 in my case) starts taxiing. Anyone else observing this?

Wasn’t sure if I was missing something! Ok, I’ve made a bug report for it here Cannot assign VR controller thumbstick up/down like in MSFS2020

Go to Customize identity and there’s an empty slot you can select for the co-pilot appearance

“Customize Identity”, then click on “Co-Pilot”, pick the first option which is an empty slot, when you do you should see the picture of the co-pilot go away on the main part of the screen”

It’s far from ideal, especially as you can lose sight of where your going, but it does get you out of a “hole”.

Figured it out, Windshield effects kept reverting back to Medium, the rain only shows on High. Needed to set to defaults and re adjust and finally got it to stick to High.

My experience in VR is fantastic after about three days of adjusting settings. Thanks to this forum I tried something that I thought would be impossible. I ran VD at 120hz and went from 29 fps to 40, spaced warped to 60/70fps. I don’t understand how!

I5 13600k, 4070, 32gb ddr4 ram, VD on wifi6, Quest 3, process lasso no core 0.

VD Snap dragon OFF, Ultra, 120hz, buffering on, HVEC 10 @200, S.W. on, buffering on

Openxr toolkit FFR as desired, turbo mode off, CAS sharpening 100% all other sharpening off/0. FOV set to 99.5%.

In game dlss quality all high settings. Hags On for 2024/off for 2020.

This runs my rig stutter free and very smooth. I hope this helps someone it is my three days of torment.

Happy landings

I’m super shocked that your smoothness and frames are better in 2020, to be honest. I’m on the same setup but have a varjo and am seeing about 20% poorer performance like many others. Can you clarify the exact resolution (in pixels) you’re rendering at in 2020, and 2024, and whether motion reprojection was on in both instances? thx

Yes but have you blurred graphics?

My experience in VR is smooth.

But I find ground texture low resolution.
So, I made a flight in 2D with the hot air balloon. And the ground texture was the same… Low resolution that can be called blurry with sharp autogen houses.
So I’m not convinced that it’s a stream problem. I believe that it is a problem of low resolution Bing maps. I can see all the ugliness of the 2020 maps with the lines between the tiles.
I’m sure that there are better tiles elsewhere but where I fly, it is low resolution by design.

No it’s super clear and readable. I slight step down (barely noticeable) from dlss dlss. I won’t fly blurred it ruins the immersion

That’s incredible as my PC spec is about the same as yours and although my fps tonight is an incredible 45fps. But the LOD is blurry and shiny. The LOD on the ground is so bad, but the frame rate is so great

I’m trying to screenshot with the VD fps overlay to show the forum. I can’t figure it out. Maybe I’ll try and snap a pic through the lense

There’s definitely potential here. I’ve had flights at 4000 x whatever on oxr toolkit, 45 asw locked at 36fps on ott, smooth as butter on my Qpro then next flight it all falls apart with it being locked at around 22fps for whatever reason.
I think someone else has posted similar results so maybe a memory leak going on, it isn’t the toolkit because I had the same result without it.

I’m using the latest dlss

I never in a million years thought that raising the refresh rate to 120 would do this. My simulator was unplayable for 3 days.

My MS 2024 VR experience with Quest 3 is extremely bad: with both “High” settings, while the image is sharp, enjoyable, and with good FPS in MS2020, in MS2024 the VR image quality for the same scenery (Tora Bora) is simply too low and make me NOT want to fly anymore. I think it’s partly due to the very slow refreshing of “remote” textures (hills only a few hundred meters away now need to be refreshed to show any detail). However even the instrument panel now looks much less sharp than in MSFS2020. It has nothing to do with my CPU or GPU performance because MS2020 works much better in VR.

After I lost all interest to try VR flying in MSFS2024, I went back to MS2020 again. It’s like a light-year quality leap! Of course MSFS2020 is still the same (except for less users?), but bad MSFS2024 VR image now made it much more visual appealing to me.

I may be too pessimistic, but I have decided to cancel Xbox pass and end my MSFS2024 trial in a few weeks. Dynamic loading everything from a remote server cannot be a good idea so MSFS2024 will be extremely hard to dig itself out of that deep hole. I haven’t even complained about the much slower loading of the game yet.

BTW, I used DLSS Quality. But even when I switched to TAA, MS2024 VR image quality is still bad. “Remote” (only a few hundred meters away) textures still refresh very slow and ruin all the immersion.
