Windscreen reflections are a dad overdone, also.
Its interesting when you go from 2024 to 2020, how much better the experience in 2020 is lol. I will be hanging there for awhile. I get lots of CTDs in 2024 too.
Not using my Index controllers and never tried. Just the mouse and keyboard.
Yup I will play with Super Sampling and see how far I can go. Image clarity would be more important than other visual settings.
Thanks for the info.
It scales very well imho, and yes, the clarity makes all the difference.
I have finally found settings that give me results (clarity and FPS) very close to MSFS2020.
Hardware = 5Ghz CPU (8 core) and Nv3080ti (12gb VRAM) + Quest3 (wifi6e)@72Hz using Virtual Desktop at godlike resolution along with OXRTK set for 80% upscaling so as to get 2458x2572 resolution (FFR=quality preset) inside MSFS2024 - using TAA!!
I use for my testing the iniBuilds A330-300GE and load a KSBA (Santa Barbara, CA) run to KLAX using SimBrief directly loaded with the iniBuilds EFB and then transfering the flightplan to the FMC. I can read the FMC without leaning in (much) and the PFD/NAV display look fairly crisp. I do get 36FPS looking forward and sideways with the VR graphics settings (dynamic=OFF) mostly medium settings (Trees=LOW), LODs=120, and LOW traffics). VRAM usage is high (90%) though.
I fly near dusk or sunrise where the scenery looks best. I really enjoy the A330 - A330 Driver has a great checkout video on youtube. Finally some enjoyment!
They won’t. Just wait MSFS 2028 for a next bunch of VR-bugs
I have to revert back to 3D mode for stable flights
Those are all good options to try. If you have a Meta headset and use Link or Air Link I suggest a 4th option to try;
4. Oculus Debug Tool ASW mode = Forced 45fps, asw disabled
This actually limits your fps to 1/2 your refresh rate. I use 80Hz refresh rate so this gives me 40fps and holds rock steady to this. With Link or Air Link you can also use keyboard commands and do these on the fly;
Ctrl+num1 (numeric keyboard 1, not top row one) = asw disabled
Ctrl+num2 = forced 45fps, asw disabled (again, actually 1/2 your refresh rate)
Ctrl+num3 = fprced 45fps, asw enabled
Ctrl+num4 = asw auto (default)
Again, you can only use these with Link or Air Link. You cannot do this with Virtual Desktop because it doesn’t actually have the official Oculus rumtime, just their version of it.
Also works well with MSFS 2024 btw.
After mucking around with MSFS 2024 for a couple of days I’ve decided to just uninstall it and maybe wait until later next year to reinstall it. I initially did this when MSFS020 first came out and didn’t reinstall it until their 40th Anniversary edition (with heli’s) came out a couple of years ago.
I just don’t see the point in going though all the umpteen bug fixes updates that are going to take place over the next 3-6 months. In the meantime, MSFS 2020 in VR continues to work very well, for me anyway. For those that intend to ride all this out with MSFS 2024, I salute you. Thanks and cheers.
Well my weird direction -sensitive fps drops have disappeared. This correlates with me doing a full clean DDU GPU driver re-install.
Correlation, not necessarily causation though!
that’s the thing about performance issues. They can sometimes be way harder to identify than they are to solve.
I suspect these are actually caused by data loading and are thus dependent on current bandwidth and cache state.
Having said that, I’ve flown in areas where PG streaming was clearly not keeping up with my jet but the FPS were unaffected so it seems to be certain types of loads under certain conditions that impact the rendering pipeline but not all of them.
The other, maybe odd, reason I’d considered was whether the scene changes more quickly when you’re looking sideways than it does when you’re looking straight ahead, causing more work for the PC?
Probably not.
I know I’m not crazy here…
But yesterday, when 2020 was down, was the absolute BEST performance and visuals I’ve had since launch…
Like the Thanksgiving dinner, dry and stuffed full of bugs.
I have found VR performance generally worse than in FS2020 and many put this down to Directx 12. However, the biggest problem I’ve found is with interacting with switches and dials within the cockpit. The mouse seems difficult to focus on the target cockpit control and the Quest 3 hand controller action is just a mess. Does anyone else find the same?
Can i suggest anyone posting successes and ‘good’ experiences quantifies it by specifying the exact resolution they’re running in the headset? I still haven’t seen any evidence the sim runs better than about 20-30% WORSE FPS than 2020 for the SAME resolution and ground level of detail, in VR. That’s a huge issue because now you’re kicked below your desired 1/2 or 1/3 frame rate and you see stutters, unless you lower resolution. I actually think zero people have disproved what I just stated, despite a lot of ‘it looks great’ ‘it looks fine’ ‘it looks smooth’ ‘it isn’t blurry’ which are useless subjective observations.
The performance difference is not due to DX12 imo. Been using that in 2020 for years and it always ran great, smoother (though not more fps) than dx11. Better frame times.
Yeah anyone who I’ve heard say that 2024 VR runs great is running very (for my standards) low resolutions. Which is fine, but it should be playable at high resolutions too, especially after equal/better performance was promised so many times.
Yes but the ultra reliable fanboys on YouTube claim a rip roaring success and their graphics are as good now as in 2020.
I wish they would fess up and not have us on - do they take us for fools
Every night I’ve been methodically trying things to improve performance based on some very successful tips I made popular for MSFS 2020 VR including DLSS and rivatuner, and every night I finish by popping back into 2020 for comparison and am instantly blown away by how much smoother and sharper it is.
It. Should. Not. Be. This. Way. Round.
