Yeah, I just read the patch notes too, no mention of performance improvements. Could be a server side thing? No idea.
The in-sim smoothing doesn’t seem to produce any artifacts and it’s not locked to any particular framerate, so I guess 48fps are real frames. I’ll do another test with dev mode on to get a better idea.
It was only a short flight, so we’ll see how it pans out with more testing, but today for me at least in Oz, this was really acceptable performance and visuals, I was well pleased. Let’s just hope this continues.
Not locked to any frame rate.. So it’s not like the usual VR reprojection techniques that vendors offer, like ASW? Since those always require an fps lock, or at leat trigger one themselves.
It’s called reprojection in the sim menu with 2 settings, Depth (buffer) and Depth + Motion (vector). It always reverts to depth only for my headset. So its not adding frames just using the depth buffer to try and smooth things a bit. I don’t thing it does much tbh.
In other news, I have to fess up to making a boo boo. The reason for my increased FPS was not the patch or servers, it was me fooling around last night and forgetting what I had done…the price you pay for constant fiddling to get the best fps with decent visuals.
I had been trying VR with and without the Toolkit and with the Toolkit off I had reset resolution in Pimax Play to 90%…which is about 4000 x something. Then when I was re-using the Toolkit today with res override off, it was just displaying the lower value set in Pimax Play. Last night I had added sharpening both in-sim setting and CAS, hence the crisper look…and 48fps.
Oh well, at least those settings fooled me and looks pretty good, lol.
Stayed the same for me - swapped to 3.8.10.0 last week and it has not reverted.
After a week of tweaking getting consistent and stable 40 FPS, no stutters (which plagued me in 2020) with a 70ish latency, 200mbps, 120FPS, AV10, 7950x3D/4080 on VD with a dedicated 6E access point. Coupled with fast load times, a marked improvement for me.
With the crystal at least, or i guess in general, if you do the toggle vr toolbar assigned binding on my yoke, all i get is the cog config square with options for turning off features in the toolbar, not the toolbar itself.. is this a known bug? i think i saw it somewhere but now forget?
Also i think the efb is popping up when toggling the toolbar.
I know there are larger issues to tackle atm…but the reflections of mountains on water look absolutely TERRIBLE. They look like they’re from Flight Sim 98. Not only that, but when you move your head, they move with you. It’s bizarre and so distracting.
I have to try DLSS and the swapper but for now like 50/60 FPS on mid / high settings and Openxr toolkit and VD on Ultra and SSW always enabled. With a i9 and 3080 with 32 GB
There is no smart smoothing or motion reprojection in the sim itself. This option is only passing some additional information to the software of the headset, which may (or more frequently may not) use it to improve the reprojection quality at the headset software layer. Not many headsets can utilize this information.
More explanation from the “master or our order” himself:
So if we turn it on in the HMD software, should we also in the sim settings? That relationship has long confused me. In WRM it seemed to trigger it but otherwise I haven’t seen it do anything.
