What has your VR experience been like in Microsoft 2024 so far?

You can also connect a watt/amp meter between the AC outlet and your PC and find your exact usage.

Actual power usage is much below theoretical maximum of components summed. When CPU is using max power, GPU is usually not, and vice versa. I have watt meter before my PC, and max usage of whole PC (i7-14700K, 5070Ti, 64GB RAM, two M.2 SSDs, several SATA HDDs) has been about 550W. Because efficiency of my PSU is 80% (Gold), peak usage of the system is only 440W. Now I have 850W PSU, but I ran this system with only 650W PSU several months without issues

Wow, that’s crazy to me

I had a G2 years ago (bought in 2020) then went to to an Aero (by ways of short stints with Pico4 and Quest Pro, then VR1 and briefly Q3 on the side) , and now my daily driver is the BSB2 until I can get on the 4k micro-oled train.

Im glad the G2 is (still) working out for you, I thought it was great too at the time. But I find the pancake lenses vastly superior to the old fresnel, same with the MOLED panels. And the ability to run 75fps@75hz is another huge plus.

Even with the increased glare (which for me is only problematic in high-contrast scenes, in others I hardly notice it), I find the BSB2’s image and eye-feel vastly superior. And I think most would agree.

But hey, VR is super subjective. Interesting hearing your opinion, don’t think I’ve ever seen someone prefer the G2 over the BSB2.

Genuinely curious, comparing the Aero and the BSB2, you find the latter to be miles better? A little better? My Aero has been my workhorse for years now but sometimes I feel like it might be aging out.

Yes, 100%. Because:

  • Form factor / comfort obviously
  • Micro-oled vs LCD
  • Pancake lenses vs aspheric (MUCH more natural and relaxed eye feel, it’s almost like looking at the real world)
  • Very similar HFOV, much better VFOV (Aero is notoriously terrible in this department)
  • Ability to run 75fps@75hz, which is very doable in my scenarios (GA)
  • Decent integrated audio via audio strap
  • Added bonus: amazing customer support

IMO the Aero only wins with its slightly higher resolution, and less glare. But the former is not too noticeable and not that relevant for me anyway since I want to hit 75fps, so I run 3560*3560 and DLSS. And the glare is only really an issue in high contrast scenes, and even then it’s manageable.

Note that the BSB2 even trumped the VR1 for me, which is definitely better than the Aero. I never planned on this, it just sneakily became my daily driver. I only bought the BSB2 at the time to finally try out micro-oled, plus I’d never had a DP-based pancake HMD before. Now I don’t use the VR1 anymore.

Ideally I’d want something with less glare and 4k MOLED, like the Dream Air. But for now the BSB2 is great. The DA is impossible to get atm and seems to have a few teething issues.

Truly ideally I want a 4K BSB3 with less glare!

My experience on VR in my Quest 3 using VD on my mid-range PC has been in one word amazing in all kinds of aircraft, both native and custom scenery and airports, varying weather, times of day, BATC, GSX, Chase Plane. Reading some of the bad experiences makes me wonder if I’m in some alternate dimension. lol

I live in a fully solar powered house so the monitoring software for my inverters, panels and batteries shows me power usage. I intentionally built my gaming PC to use the lowest amount of watts while still giving decent graphics. I seem to have hit a sweet spot with a 5700X3D processor and a 4060ti 16gb card.
