Yup, same exact situation here. After about 15-20 minutes of flying, my FPS goes from a steady 45 down to 12.
exactly the same experience as you
Just from watching this thread, I’m seeing more issues related to people with Nvidia’s GPU’s across all forums. I use i9-10900k with a Radeon 6800XT oc’d. I flew Cancun to Miami this morning in A320Nx. Smooth flight, ultra settings. I had brief stuttering for about 5 seconds descending into Mia, but I was running Rex Weather. I’ve noticed this before so now I know it could be the reason for stutter when the weather loads in. I switched to live weather and didn’t stutter again. I’m current drivers, bios, etc.
Many people with the AMD 6000 series GPUs are also reporting issues, just like a lot of people with nVidia are reporting none. nVidia users just outnumber AMD users overall.
You need to read the many different thread on this, particularly the one in the bug report section to get a clearer picture of what people are using.
To answer the OP question, I do not know what broke the fps…but I’m absolutely certain that Microsobo do know.
However, I suspect that fixing it could either screw up or delay their XBox rollout and/or could break some other significant part of FS2020.
I regret that I do not see a real fix to this issue until the summer rollout of the Xbox and I also believe that Microsobo would meanwhile rather take the inevitable financial hit of lost store sales than delay the said XBox rollout.
I believe that FS2020 was always at heart an XBox project and for the suits at MS, that is imo
much more important than a sizeable minority of complaining PC users.
Just an opinion of course.
Meanwhile I’ve gone back to XPlane which in VR/Vulcan works superbly with Pilot2ATC and Traffic Global but…I’d rather be simming in FS2020. However, I simply cannot at the moment given the miserable state of the program.
I think the Xbox connection is a good point.
Doesn’t the Xbox roll with 64Gb DDR6? That’s that’s more vram class fast memory than many people have ram and vram combined.
Therefore if a lot of their Dev, optimisation and testing is at present done on the Xbox platform then asset delivery issues which cause stutter/FPS drops for PC users may not even be seen by them let alone caught and resolved.
Chances are that with the publisher breathing down their necks to make the Xbox version deadline happen with a working product there is likely little time nor enthusiasm to fix issues which they don’t see on their Xbox Dev consoles themselves
I agree…particularly as the base code is undergoing a rewrite to make it more efficient for the XBox, why would they be diverted from that?
Also, as I understand it, XBox has no virtual memory (pagefile), hence the extra RAM to which you refer. On the PC, regardless of the amount of RAM, FS2020 always uses some pagefile memory.
Hopefully, that rewrite will benefit PC users as well.
No, 16GB GDDR6 for the Series X
I get similar fps most of the time, then all of a sudden…wham!!.. 6fps and it stays right there until I just shut 'er down. And yes I have an Asobo ticket on file. When filing I had to list every file in my Community folder. Just about made me back out.
In that case we’ll all be back to FS1995.
At least that worked, kind of anyway.
Please go to 76T and report back, you will see a sample of what people are complaining about, not one person that actually try’s it reports back that’s all good, more like wow, now I see what everyone is talking about
If you have enough RAM, you can diable your Windows page file. I have 64 GB. I’ve tried both with and without a page file. And it really makes zero difference to MSFS performance with or without.
All good here at 76T.
A good 3 frames per second !

Gr8 post
I have 128GB Hyper X DDR 4 RAM at 3200Mhz, along with an RTX 3090, i9 at 5.3Ghz with medium/high settings, rendering at 100, it slows to a slideshow randomly in different locations/flight regimes lasting from 10-90 seconds. I have only the G3000 mod in my community folder and fly TBM 930 exclusively.
The update did not break this game.
It was never optimized to begin with. It’s always been a stutter-fest.
Asobo needs to step back and take a look at things.
Adding more pretty scenery is not the answer to our issue.
There’s folks here with 3090’s that can barely achieve 30 fps… Sad.
Have you seen this?
Had slow down to less than 10-15 fps between Portland KPDX and KUIL in NW Washington State at 18000 feet for about a minute. Also, between Montgomery AL and Pensacola FL during descent. Both in stock TBM 930 with G3000 mod only. My rig specs are off the chart (see previous post above). Glass smooth and super clear in VR all other times. I use nvidia 457.30 driver for the RTX 3090 which based on forum inputs, has been the best (in the past). Not sure what is causing the random hits to fps but did not have them before SU3.
That’s optimistic. If you look at other threads, some people with 10900K or Ryzen 5900X plus a 3090 or 6800XT are struggling to break 10 fps currently and can’t even fly at all.
This is due to the way Windows 10 is designed. Windows often shifts memory for processes to the paging file. MSFS doesn’t have a choice. It cannot refuse to have memory paged out.
