I see these a little like I see companies that take advantage of people with gambling addiction problems. If someone is taking advantage of a group of people that just have to have every addon available, in a very real way that lowers the floor for how much effort you have to put in to develop something.
Cynically exploiting people for financial gain is never going to be pretty.
