Exactly. For a fighter jet, a simple nose view with a HUD would be better than having only an exterior camera.
And for non-combat military aircraft, there is often a civilian variant that can be used as a reference. The C-130 is not that much different from an L-100, and the P-8 Poseidon is based on a 737-800.
