For data limiting, it shows “GiB” which after some Googling means “gibibyte”.
I’m not good with numbers so I’m having trouble understanding how it differs from gigabyte i.e. 1000 megabytes.

That’s the choice of the Development Team to portray GB as GiB. When you get an Update, double-check the Installer page - you’ll see the same term used, but it means Gigabytes of Storage space.

Storage devices have traditionally used GB to describe their storage capacity. The way Windows uses GB differs and has always clashed with that.
Sounds like some confusion here
And, there are 8 bits to a byte. So 1 GB = 8 Gb
