“On MSFS2024 there is no base game download, you can not download add ons, you must stream everything . It will not work without an internet connection .”
so now again,
what’s the difference between streaming and downloading?
“On MSFS2024 there is no base game download, you can not download add ons, you must stream everything . It will not work without an internet connection .”
so now again,
what’s the difference between streaming and downloading?
I have already explained that in a previous post.
not really, you did not.
I will ask a question for example,
klax airport sceanery is download or streamed in MSFS2024?
Streamed.
why is it streamed?
Because it is not predownloaded on to your PC before starting your flight, the required files of the airport are streamed as you need them in realtime (not the whole airport, just the part it needs at that moment in time) to your PC, rendered on your screen, and then possibly (but not necessarily) stored in a temporary overwriteable cache.
then, what happen if scenery are changed.
it will be redownloaded and changed automatically without user notification?
Yes, it will. The version number in the cache is different to the version on the server.
If the scenery has changed, it will streamed/redownloaded automaically without user notification.
" as you need them in realtime (not the whole airport, just the part it needs at that moment in time) to your PC"
but it will be partly applied and old and new sceanery will be mixed then.
Presumably the out of date cached information will be overwritten with the newer scenery to stop that from happening.
surely I think much things should be considered.
well, I need to go. see you next time!
it was good discussion. thankyou. good day!
It will update the parts as they are needed.
You will start with old and new mixed, but when you need the old, the old will be replaced with the new automatically.
Yes! There is a lot to think about, it is very different.
You’re welcome.
Good day to you too!
“Unfortunately we still don’t know what has been changed on each aircraft, but we know that something has.”
it’s not known with MSFS2020 too.
as a end user (not as beta tester), it can be acceptable.
‘some thing is changed because airplane is upgraded. humm.’
but in MSFS2024, we don’t know whether airplane is changed or not. so, when something is going differently, we don’t know what’s going on and that make me frustrated.
I am not just talking about situations with beta testing stage,
those situations will happen even with the release versions.
for example, PC-12 airplane will be updated without any notice.
Before an update, what I would do is make a backup copy of a plane, adding a version number to its folder, then I can compare the old plane with the new plane.
yeah, we know and even we can choose when we update with MSFS2020.
but in MSFS2024… as we told, we don’t know update has happened or not unless we keep watching every files on disk.
How often does this happen? I feel like they are only updating airport data etc with sim updates.
Someone put ‘small HD footprint’ on a whiteboard early in development, which nobody was asking for. They let this idea make it all the way to the official minimum game size at launch. It’s been at their own peril ever since. Now we’ve jumped another generation of processors and GPUs and it’s the cloud streaming problem that’s giving them all the headaches. If it were more like 2020, 24 could be properly optimized for modern graphic advances and they could have just reduced the extended footprint by working world updates and traffic into the sim and not the entire game. Everyone was asking for an aircraft favorite function, not a 100gb game.
How do you differentiate “the sim” from “the entire game”? If these world updates aren’t being streamed, they have to be on local disk therefore a larger footprint. There is no third option, unless you have come up with one?
To be fair though, when they stated that they realised the situation of the sim just getting larger, and larger, and realised that couldn’t continue, I think they just meant it wouldn’t work for the consoles any more. On PC you just buy a larger disk.
Things like the aircraft and avionics, the 3d objects library, all common auto/AI generated textures, all of the career resources, etc. Then the world is streamed and our own computer puts the aircraft into it. What was supposed to optimized is not because computers are being tasked with converting things that would be a non issue when on the HD.
