There doesnt seem to be any model matching in multiplayer at all on Series X at the moment. Everything is just generic models. I know it was an issue in 2020 but at least all be it very rarely you would get the occasional match if you owned or were flying the same plane. Ive played 2024 a bunch since release and there is literally no matching at all.
I stupidly believed that as the planes are streamed it maybe would mean that there wouldnt be such a high memory cost which limited 2020 and it would mean much more consistent matching.
Not just on Xbox. It’s pretty flaky and seems to vary from time to time and even the same player in the same session sometimes appears correctly and sometimes not, when they go out of view and back in again it can flip. Very odd.
And livery matching (from the default planes) even if the model is matched is totally borked too.
Yesterday I saw myself in the correct livery and another player in the same plane in a different one. But to him, he saw himself in the livery HE had picked (so actually we both had picked the same default grey one) but ME in the “wrong” one that I saw HIM in. Go figure!
There is a complex and thorough process in which msfs2024 displays a model/livery to you, based on the aircraft model, icao code, livery name, and distance away. Here is a diagram:
I’m guessing here but the improved model matching claimed for 2024 must be disabled currently because it’s actually worse than 2020 if that’s possible. I saw no model at all the other day, just a gamer tag and an invisible aircraft. Not even the generic bonanza model.
If it is meant to be working then it’s yet another thing that they messed up.
Has anyone tried the new 2020 model matching settings yet? Now you can set it to use generic or match for both AI and MP aircraft in the traffic settings.
I have not seen any model matching in FS2024 multiplayer for helicopters.
But the problem is even simpler: I am quite sure that at least some of the dozens of players I’ve seen online are flying helis that are native to the basic sim so there is really no “model matching” needed. Asobo, just please show the actual aircraft being used by the players.
I do group flights and all the helis look like Beechcraft Bonanzas or the like. It’s all very discouraging to see these planes hovering about the landscape like they are on some kind of magic carpet.
Yep. There was a massive opportunity to fix this once and for all and despite the claims it’s no different. It may even be worse. All this talk of licensing liveries and we are at whatever percent completely misses the point. Liveries are the secondary point to this. The main issue is showing an appropriate model for the aircraft chosen by each player. It’s really not hard but Microsoft and Asobo are making it seem that way. They should take a look at M3 model match to get the gist of what’s needed. They are never going to get away from the “don’t understand what’s required” criticism with debacles like this. Over 4 years and still we wait for a proper solution to such a fundamental part of the sim.
This is what is keeping me from getting 2024 for now besides other issues.
To me having to stream most assets is a downgrade. At least let us feel the advantages of it, model matching should work with both 1st and 3rd party planes (as long as they were acquired on the central marketplace).
Seeing boeings flying low or cessnas going 500kt doesn’t do a lot for immersion.
I’m tired of seeing gliders at jetways. Can’t the model default to a 737 if it’s at a jetway? I understand it’s hard to track live traffic but there could be a system in place that chooses another substitute depending on parking space.
The parking spaces at vast majority of the worldwide airports (outside of US especially) are marked as “GA small” and so this determines the type of static aircraft that will be parked there. A glider fits this description unfortunately and they are everywhere as a result. I want my ability to remove all static traffic back as it’s horrendous and kills performance at larger airports
It doesn’t need to be and shouldn’t be restricted to where you purchased. It’s about having a model available to the matching algorithm such that it can be shown whenever another player has it selected. It matters not if the one loaded was purchased from MP or any other store but just what aircraft it is. So build up that model collection and fix the algorithm so it always shows the most appropriate model. It’s really quite a simple concept that Microsoft and Asobo seem to not get.
