Just switched from HD to 4K on a 75" Sony TV connected to a medium old gaming PC with a 1070 video card and it runs fine. Probably lower frame rate but still pleasant to fly and not immediately noticeable.
I think with a 3080 you should hardly see any difference at all, but you can always trade quality for framerate depending on your preference. Graphics settings should generally be open-ended and you should not expect perfect performance with every possible setting on maximum. Some compromise is usually required regardless.
