So in the discovery video update Asobo mentioned that they will implement something called ‘‘masking?’’ to improve CPU efficenty as to not loose any perf. in VR.
Now im just curious, could any optimizations they make for VR also find its way to the rest of us and be an overall improvement for everyone or is this just wishfull thinking?
If that refers to the same technique as “mask-based foveated rendering” then probably not; that’s specific to the shape and resolution variances of VR rendering.
What worries me is that the VR will inevitably have it’s own problems when released, followed of course by the VR users demanding it’s put right as number 1 priority.
The work on VR has already diverted effort away from the main sim (as used by the majority of simmers), and is likely to delay the necessary bug corrections and performance improvements in the future.
So, in answer to your question, I think the advent of VR in the game will makes things worse for the majority, not better.
Good point and I think you’re right. I don’t think VR is great news for the average user for the reasons you have outlined.
