I think anyone who watches the development trends closely weren’t blindsided - certainly not those Dev Teams. In order to revamp the Flight Planning Logic module of the core sim, all digital FMS in the sim had to be upgraded first. The Garmins, the PL, the Honeywell and even the Thales on the stock A320. Otherwise they can’t access the full range of the future AIRAC compliant flight planning system (today’s World Map).
