What's happening with the G3X?

When you say “split needle,” are you referring to the course deviation indicator (CDI) within the horizontal situation indicator (HSI)?

Like this?

And the “heading indicator,” are you talking about the bearing 1/2 (BRG1/2) arrows or the course selector (CRS) arrow? Or maybe the heading bug (HDG)?

If the BRG arrows are pointing at a localizer signal, that’s incorrect behavior. That’s what I was saying earlier. Those act like a steam-gauge radio magnetic indicator (RMI) and don’t point toward localizers. They will, however, point toward VOR and NDB stations as well as GPS waypoints, depending on what is tuned and/or selected.

The CRS indicator will automatically align with the desired track for the current leg of loaded procedures, flight plans, and direct-to waypoints. Otherwise, if you’re manually tuning and the CDI key has you in VLOC or NAV mode (“green needles” versus magenta needles GPS) you need to set it manually. You can always push the CRS knob to center it on the inbound LOC course or the VOR radial inbound TO the station.
