When you say “split needle,” are you referring to the course deviation indicator (CDI) within the horizontal situation indicator (HSI)?

Yes.

And the “heading indicator,” are you talking about the bearing 1/2 (BRG1/2) arrows or the course selector (CRS) arrow? Or maybe the heading bug (HDG)?

No. I am still referring to the CDI within the HSI.

You can always push the CRS knob to center it on the inbound LOC course or the VOR radial inbound TO the station.

Thank you. I truly appreciate your help. I think I now understand the how’s and why’s of this system. Still a big (and rather slow) learning curve for me on these systems! The “eureka moments” are few and far between.
