What's so bad about MSFS being on the Xbox?

What I see is that the complains are more related to the way MS is handling the sim…like “same sim for different hardware”. In the ideal world, we would have different sim to different platform, optimized to each.
In 90s we had the snes vs master system, and when a game were launched for both, we could see small things that were planned to snes console, and other for master system. They did not try to do “the same game experience” for both, because each of those consoles had their own personalities and limitations, that were considered when working in a title.

Yes , I heard the air traffic control is fantastic in Forza Horizon 5… ( I’ll just grab my coat and quietly leave…).

The hardcore simming community can be pretty toxic. Simple as that.

Hardcore simming implies some form of elitism which kinda logically comes with the territory and isn’t necessarily inherently bad, but can quickly delve into toxicity.

One problem i could see for the Xbox is the “stacking” of add-ons. Sure you can have aircraft and airports that are running fine on console but what happens if you start stacking? The extra content on the marketplace isn’t really tested to work in combination with other extras. What happens if your are running a “study-level” aircraft, a highly detailed payware airport, different traffic models, intense textures and regional scenery at the same time?

How much can you feed the console before it runs out of memory?

I think this is part of the problem.
One community - absolutely agree.
One world - not so much. The graphical capabilities and expectations of a 700€ Xbox cannot be compared to those of a 3,000€ PC. My graphics card alone costs almost double as much as the entire Xbox! Throwing these into the same hat is disrespectful to the PC users, especially since the graphics of the sim have apparently been downgraded to “fit” into the Xbox and this degradation has been sold to the community as an “optimization”. This obviously causes frustration and anger, especially if there is no communication about it. Will the issues be fixed? Will PC users see the wonderful graphics again that they saw pre-Xbox (SU5)? Silence from the Microsoft/Asobo. Cloud/Shimmering issues “unable to reproduce”… really? Look at all the evidence!

A reminder for this thread:

One World, One Community - No matter how you play – regardless of console, experience level, or reason – we are one community of aviation lovers.

A Pilot is a Pilot - Welcome new pilots to the community with respect, and seek to have positive experiences with your fellow pilots.

Not enough of the above happening here.

just saying

Not disagreeing with you there.

Like politicians they twist the words to meet their agenda. And a large number of people will buy that… “these aren’t the droids you are looking for”

Careful…you are beginning to show signs of “elitism” and “toxicity” and all those other talking points and buzz words.

Thanks for your input. Have a lovely day.

Your welcome. Anytime

I bought this simulator on the day of it’s launch a little over an year ago. And the product I have now is not the same one I had then. It changed over time and I have enough experience with flight simulators to say that the evolution was in fact a regression in many aspects.
I can have flagged posts, moderator warnings, and even be banned from this forum. But as far as I can reach, I will share my honest opinion about this with anyone that cares to read it.
If the day comes, where the development of this simulator takes the opposit direction, I will do the same and I will have no problem to compliment the developers and revert my opinion.
Elistist or toxic adjectives won’t ever change my mind. A simulator for everyone, every platform is perfectly fine… just not this way, at least for me. I feel sad, I feel frustrated and I feel scamed with the way things are going. If this was supposed to be a sim for everyone, they sure are leaving a group behind.

I can’t help but see a correlation with the Cyberpunk disaster. Was great on PC… but suffered on the consoles… same platform for both. Seems like they are trying the same thing… and obviously, the bugs and lessons of one platform tech have not been worked out yet.

And now, if you all excuse me, I am going to “elitisting” try land a long haul IFR flight with half of the frames that my computer is able to perform due to a SU5 and above optimization feature

As a member of the PC master race I for one welcome our new XBOX overlords. Seriously though, a lot of people are upset at the current state of the sim and the litany of issues that it currently has. They feel that Asobo’s efforts should be focused on resolving those issues as priority one.

They feel that any resources spent on things such as world update eye candy or on the XBOX system should be diverted to resolving all of the issues of the base sim first. They feel that the diversion of these resources to these other development tasks is a disservice to the users of this sim.

There is also the elitism that seems to pervade most specialized areas of entertainment. Even within the world of gaming there is the vitriol espoused towards users of mobile games that refer to themselves as “gamers”.

My advice to you would be this: Fly. Fly and enjoy the sim on whatever platform you use. Ignore the haters. They will always be there. Personally I feel that the more folks exposed to simming, the better.

SU5 was release 27th July, the thread on this forum on long flight FPS drops issue (which I’ve been following) was started on 11th April . Three 1/2 months before XBox (SU5) release.

Well it really is optimization. They did more than that (slower texture decompression, putting a memory limit) but that aside, if you fit a program into a smaller space, you need to improve and cleanup the sources ! PC version will profit from that on the long term. Also, PC will profit from DX-12. This technology now runs - or: is now tested - in XBox and allows these systems to have comparible quality (Medium/High). The DX-12 will reach PC too… and that will give a performance boost. And LOD improvements.

Is the merge of MSFS/XBox and MSFS/PC community realistic ? That is is different question, but I think it may be happening already. There are more and more questions from XBox people about flying, ATC, aviation… I think this merger is a good thing. It brings a lot of money in. When they would split the two versions, PC is going to get far less money than XBox… and most maintenance needs to be done twice.

Keep one version and you don’t have these issues… and everyone gets the benefits of the extra funds.

CTDs on every long haul flight over six hours every time on Xbox.

The sim is great on Xbox visually speaking but it highlights the hardware limitations such as the memory leaks causing crashes on every long haul (or black instruments), and has accelerated my PC build.
