Current loading times and 100K throughput to the servers is unacceptable. This has been a feature of the server response times since the implementation of the XBOX version and the increased player base. It is also impacting download speeds for scenery loading, especially photogrammetry and POIs. I have a 250Mb\s fibre link and no issues with any other streaming platforms. Am I alone in this, because I cant find anything wrong on the network at my end.
You might want to mention your geolocation. I’m not seeing this but I probably live next to one of their data centers.
Melbourne, Australia.
They have a data center there, so I’m outta ideas. For what it’s worth I’m seeing better streaming speeds. Maybe check your wifi setup, not sure. Is your rolling cache set really big? I sometimes think that makes things worse.
I have to admit I have been blessed here on the East Coast US, however I have been able to connect to and fly with other all over too … I have a feeling the mains are in VA, US?
Kinda like AOL back in the day lol
Edit: I had great dial up pings for AirwarriorII … I missed the big $$$ days
Interestingly, I’ve noticed something. I have two computers connected to my router through the same GB switch. I have a 450MB/sec Comcast connection, that I’ve never seen go less than 450MB/sec using the internet speed test (I don’t know how accurate it is).
The day before WU6 I installed MSFS on the new computer I’m setting up. I was surprised to see it downloading at 40 to 50MB/sec. After a period, it jumped up to 105 MB/s. In the past, on my other computer, I’ve usually gotten download speeds on the order of 150MB/s during installs of MSFS
When WU6 came out, the 2.67 GB and 5 GB installs each installed in about 5 minutes.
The next day, I installed the update on my new computer, and, again, super slow download speeds, it took forever to download the update. I have no idea what the difference is. I suppose I could try a different ethernet cable?
My old computer is an MSI Gaming 5 with an i7-4790K/16GB/RTX2070. The new computer is an MSI Z590 MAG PRO Wifi with an i7-11700K/64GB/MB graphics (I haven’t switched over the 2070 to it yet, since it’s near impossible to get graphics cards at reasonable prices these days). You’d think the newer board would be faster at downloading, if only slightly.
I too live in Melbourne. Funny enough, never have these issues and assumed it was because I was connected to a lightly loaded server. Guess not.
Found the issue. It was my Unreal Weather mod, in the community folder. It seems to stop the loading, and MSFS just waits till whatever it is finished doing. I have now removed it permanently and will stick with the slightly unreliable LIVE weather :P. Not sure why it was impacting the log in response (black square on screen while logging into MS Live) and the very long “checking for updates” (upwards of 5 minutes). But is seems to have resolved both these issues and the long loading following these screens.
I get erratic server speeds when downloading updates. Photogrammetry pops in within a couple of miles of the aircraft then pops back out again. Don’t know if that’s a server issue or LOD problems. I tried adjusting terrain LOD higher in the config file but it didn’t help much and dropped my framerates too low so I assume it’s Microsoft Bing servers can’t handle the new demand. I’m in St Paul MN USA.
They can’t be too concerned given the fact that the manual cache has been broken since shortly after release…
so a new one appeared tonight. Draw distance for trees since SU5 has been pretty acceptable. But as of 1 hour ago, suddenly the draw distance has been about 5nm… no changes on my end, same session, same part of the world. just weird…weird…
Flight simulator is the only programme or game that gives me any connection problems, everything else sails along at 100mb/s. For this update I was getting 3mb/s.
I don’t know if it’s their servers or the game just not pulling the data for some reason, but the same issue must be the cause of a lot of the graphics problems. I have tried all the fixes tcp window autotuung, turning off ipv6, using a vpn etc etc, no change. As I say, only this game.
I have no idea where their servers are but it certainly seems distance to them is more an issue for some than others, east coast US everything has been recently delightful.
Yes, a very good network on the east coast. There is a major internet backbone from MA to FL, with huge data centers in MA, NY, VA, NC, GA, FL.

So thinking it was my Ultimate Weather mod causing it, I have removed it, and for a while, things seem good. Now less than a week later, we are back to painfully slow login and looking for updates. The loading times are back to rubbish again. Someone, please explain how this issue can be at my end when I can fire up a 4K stream on my desktop and get no lag and smooth video on my 250Mb\s fibre connection. It is just bizarre…
It’s a great big planet and we are connecting from all corners of it.
Sure we can go to a speed test site and check our bandwidth against a server that’s usually less than 50 miles away depending how rural you are.
Now if you’re in China or Brazil or even just over the pond in the UK connecting to the US things may be different.
We have 5 servers for our online play (so we can see each other) but that does not seem to be where we are drawing photogrammarty, I believe that is only held in one location and is ruining it for many people.
