Hi there,
Whenever I start FS2020 it goes through the “Checking for Updates” routine and every time it seems to list the same ones, and none of them get installed.
I guess I’m used to programs that check for updates and install them. The way this is set up takes time every time the program launches and as far as I can tell each “Update” has to be installed individually.
To me, this functionality seems to have originated in the “Department of Redundancy Department”.
Is there no option to click “Update” and have all the updates installed so that we don’t have to go through that every time we start the program?
I know I’m probably missing something here and hope someone can advise.
Thanks.
It shouldn’t do that.
It should be a nice empty screen, just pestering you for too many seconds with its emptyness, and then go away. Unless there’s actually something to install. Which is basically only if the base install had files removed (or if there’s an actual update). But then it should install those and be empty a next startup.
Perhaps if you put up a screenshot, someone might have an idea of what you’re dealing with or how to solve it?
Yea, what @ememPilot said. It should either come up with an update page to start the update (not very often) or just move on to the next splash screen and continue loading the sim. Have you checked “content manager” to see if the notifications you’re seeing are for updates you need to load from there?
Regards
Its a puzzle to me. The checking for updates should only take a few seconds but it is such a large complex app maybe there are many things to check. Mind takes about 15 seconds. I do know if the user has a slower internet it takes longer
It also checks the whole installation… if you delete an official Asobo folder, it will recognize it and reinstall that one.
Still you’re right… I suppose that could be done smarter and a lot faster. Some indexing or something.
Well that’s pretty clever because I know end users can do goofy things. I have seen it all
It checks everything in your community folder and goes on for several minutes for me. With all my UK scenery installed, launch takes 4.5 minutes but only 1.5 minutes if I empty the community folder.
Thanks all. Since a major update is due today I’ll wait until I have that, then see what it does. If the updates that don’t update happen after that , I’ll send screenshots.
Fun locating folders related to the game. During installation I specified that it be installed on my D:\ drive. In this folder:
D:\WpSystem\S-1-5-21-1911406918-1090892697-659906839-1001\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache
In that Local Cache is the empty Community folder.
I was surprised to find FS in that WPSystems folder since that doesn’t seem to relate to Microsoft or Asobo. I searched for it online and most of what I found was people asking if it is OK to remove it and being told it is a good idea. To me, on my system …it looks like the only place FS 2020 is installed.???
