When will the sim get the DX 12 Ultimate API

Has anyone heard if there is a plan on the Asobo roadmap to get the Graphics API changed to DX 12 Ultimate ?

Maybe Asobo if they are listening might address this issue in their next update of the roadmap and Wishlist.

The increase in FPS in XPlane 11Beta when it when to Vulcan and P3D when it went to DX12 was nearly a doubling of frame rates and in VR it maxed out the headsets that run at 90% hz so I am interested to know when it’s going to happen with MSFS .

Best guess? When it goes on Xbox.

Why do we have to guess and speculate , they should just tell us unless they have no current strategy to go to a new API .

In fact they have never explained why they released a new title with a legacy API in the first place . It’s pretty sad a 40 year old sim like P3D is using DX 12 and has VR and all the graphics fruit .

I think they said in an interview it’s because DX12 wasn’t a thing when they started making the sim. I agree though. I wish they’d be more open with the roadmap.

You have to wonder if they could not change the graphics API during early development it’s going to be harder with a public release .

Then you have the problem with all the incompatibility with third party add ons And you have to repurchase them or upgrade . This is why I have deleted this sim and won’t buy back in until they deal with this and other issues .

Hopefully we will see DX12 come to fruition. It should provide a host of optimization opportunities which would be a huge benefit on top of current optimizations planned.

Well I hope it’s not too late as the older sims took 10 years or more between graphic API upgrades, maybe that is what Asobo meant with a 10 year project :scream:

Oh god could you imagine waiting 10 years for that when the sim as of now only uses 4 cpu cores? :open_mouth:

I seriously hope they address that, Because it is a major issue, My CPU has 8 cores yet the sim is only using 4. what is this? fsx? lol

Actually it is FSX , didn’t they use the old code as a base? :joy:

May guess would be that they will move to DX12 when they introduce ray tracing. I would expect that in at least a year from now, maybe later down the road.

Doesn’t bode well then for VR frame rates when it’s introduced☹️

I forgot VR was to be added sometime down the road - maybe DX12 is being worked on to compliment that feature :stuck_out_tongue:

DX12 will likely come relatively soon, my guess is before the end of 2021, I doubt it’ll take 10+ years, DX12 won’t even be close to the newest by then.

That would be my great hope . I have experienced VR in DX 11 and it’s not fantastic .

This is the most next gen looking game and I was quite surprised when I found out that they are using dx11. I mean being a microsoft title releasing in 2020 and doesn’t support dx12 ?

Dx12 is a must going forward. Raytracing and DLSS will be the next step. Hardware Unboxed did a performance review and they were as surprised by the exclusion of dx12 because right now with dx11, the sim is using only 4 cores.

Well summarised and it is starting to look like the devs are not addressing this elephant in the room . I wonder if this is why VR is delayed as DX 11 is not a native VR api.

That’s likely, it’s possible that DX12 support will launch with Reverb 2 launch.
