Where can I find info for current runway/approach in use?

Hi

I often use world map for my routes which I prefer on xbox, and I leave destination on automatic so ATC assigns me the runway in flight.

Is there a website or app that can tell me the current approach and runway in use in real time?

Automatic is often fine but it doesn’t alway work great, turnaround issue for example.

So would like to enter my route complete on the world map, or even better do it in flight as I approach (but knowing for sure what to input, instead of waiting for ATC to tell me) but just need to know the correct runway and approach.

Thanks

I haven’t found any online live database for such. Most of the time I’m using Flightradar24 to confirm weather and active runway.

Cheers,
Amos

Real life ATIS won’t necessarily match the in-sim ATIS settings. Every airport is defined in a BGL file, and that includes hard coded things like “preferred runway” which may or may not match real life and may be in use regardless of wind direction.

I just asked in the beginner thread actually on ATIS, how do I tune that in flight?

Im in default a320.

Even if you use one MSFS live weather and real-world live weather can be off. If you plan a longer flight, by the time you arrive at your destination the winds can shift.

In the real world, we just listen to ATIS then put the approach expected into the box. Often you can also hear other aircraft ahead of you being vectored for a specific approach. Good ATC will also let you know what approach to expect after first contact with them. Unfortunately, the MSFS game ATC is a crapshoot often giving you the expected approach at the last minute. The avionics in the game are very simple and do not have near the capability of their real-world counterparts.

I see, I need to learn about tuning ATIS then, that way I can have a good idea before ATC tells me active runway at last second.

Yes, MSFS ATC is very basic at best. Not much improved over the FSX days.

Yeah, personally I find it fine 95% of the time and much improved since launch on xbox for me.

Anyone know of a good tutorial about tuning atis in flight, cant seem to find anything.

Why even use ATC? So many flights have been ruined because of late descent instructions etc.. My favourite is when you fly close to the border between two airspaces where they constantly tell you to “contact … approach” back and forth. Try to land in Nice from the northeast and you’ll see what I mean.

Ive not had many issues with it so why not.

Not encountered the late decent issue for months.

I agree it has improved but still it’s so dumbed down compared to real ATC so it’s actually less immersive to use it than to mute it.

I prefer to use liveatc.com and hear real live ATC chatter around the airport that I’m flying from/to.

Im on xbox so Im limited, I really find it fine for what I do and its been quite good the last couple of months, I let my co pilot handle it anyway.

You can use LiveATC on your phone if you want, not limited by Xbox unless you want to use VATSIM or stuff like that

Good idea to let the co-pilot handle it. I always mess up my departures when I have to switch frequencies in the middle of a SID.

Someone suggested little nav map to get the airport ATIS freq, is there a good website for this as well as I use iPad for any info and little nav map is not compatible.

Ive found a website called radioreferenceUK that shows uk airport frequencies.

Aeroweather is a nice app. Works on Android

…and on iPhone, but I agree. Use it all the time.

Theres a real handy tool called Quick ILS Tool available from Flightsim.to (Quick ILS tool by Hauke Fehr) which gives the radio freqs. for most airports, including the ATIS freq. PC only I thnk.
