Where can I get a Twin Otter?

I understand Aerosoft has discontinued downloads of the Twin Otter , and that it may be included in MSFS 2024 … but if I wanted to download one prior to that is there a legit place to do it?

Thanks!

There has been no formal mention of the Twin Otter appearing in MSFS 2024. As to where you can obtain it now, unfortunately it has been pulled from sale from all venues.

Thanks, I guess we wait and see :crossed_fingers:

I’m so glad I bought this when everyone was whining about it, it’s still one of the best aircraft in the sim imho.

There is a difference between enjoyable and being the best. The latter is hardly possible to argue for, considering the shallow implementation of this aircraft. Enjoyable, I agree.

I’m not arguing anything. I said imho it is still one of the best.

Well, you are making a statement that could make people belief it is a truth. Which it isn’t :wink:

Imho (in my humble / honest opinion). Is not an “argument”.

For future ref:

  • Fact: A statement that can be proven or disproven / The Eifel Tower is located in Paris, France.
  • Opinion: A statement of personal preference / I like chocolate chip cookies.
  • Argument: A statement containing a non-religious belief that is neither decidedly true nor false, but can be reasonably opposed, and proven or disproven through strategic organization of appeals and evidence.

Opinions are something you can’t argue over without looking foolish.

The Otter is not so bad that it can’t be enjoyed and liked. It’s functional. Any issues come down mostly trivial things imo.

My issue with it is that there’s hardly a category it fits where there isn’t an aircraft that’s either cheaper or better. Occasionally both. But for a person who has a special attachment to the Otter for w/e reason, the other aircraft won’t cut it, which is fine.

It was one of the first aircraft I purchased and I enjoyed it, but after purchasing others which I consider better, it just feels a bit lackluster, esp considering the price. If it was a $10-15 aircraft it’d be pretty darn good.

I hated the Twin otter when released and was my worst plane but a few tweaks of control curves and now i love it it is very underated

Also hoping it does become available again, and on Xbox. As someone who gets to watch this amazing aircraft fly over my house all summer long, I definitely want it in my MSFS hangar.

Yes, compared to other more recent planes it is truly legacy quality. But hopefully it can be resurrected into something that takes advantage of more modern options that are available in the sim now, that were not available at the time.

Because I hadn’t thought to do it at the time, I logged in to the Aerosoft site to check my order history, and I can see it there, but the download links are removed. I can understand them not selling it to new customers, but to block it from existing ones seems harsh. What if I accidentally delete my only copy of it, for example?

I reckon it only downloads via Aerosoft One. I’m not deleting my TwOtter, but you could check if it is in your app there.

I forgot all about that. Yes, you are spot on, and I can still get it from there. Thanks for the reminder.

Just out of interest, when did this happen!?

I thought 1.0.6.0 was the last version before they stopped selling it.

Good question. I got mine for Black Friday 2022 and can’t remember updating it. Aerosoft forums only note the update to 1.0.5 half a year before that (March 2022).

EDIT: In the announcement section, they notified about 1.1.1 on November 29 2022.

Trying it out now. Very telling difference between this, and more recent releases. It doesn’t even have the WT 530 by default.

You could add it within panel.cfg, however, you’d have to do every variant by hand.

replace

[VCockpit01]
size_mm				= 320,234
pixel_size			= 320,234
texture				= AS530_Screen
htmlgauge00=NavSystems/GPS/AS530/AS530.html, 0, 0, 320, 234

[VCockpit02]
size_mm				= 350,190
pixel_size			= 350,190
texture				= AS430_Screen
htmlgauge00=NavSystems/GPS/AS430/AS430.html, 0, 0, 350, 190

with

[VCockpit01]
size_mm				= 320,234
pixel_size			= 320,234
texture				= AS530_Screen
htmlgauge00=NavSystems/GPS/WT530/WT530.html, 0, 0, 320, 234

[VCockpit02]
size_mm				= 350,190
pixel_size			= 350,190
texture				= AS430_Screen
htmlgauge00=NavSystems/GPS/WT430/WT430.html, 0, 0, 350, 190

I did so in Carenado’s 182RG and it worked like a charm! But we’re definitely OT now, so if there are more problems, open a new topic :wink:

Yes, that will work. I did the same on the BBS Islander, which I’m amazed they haven’t done themselves since its so easy.

I was also considering adding the new ground physics to it, though I’m not certain of the values. The SDK has some guidance on this, but in the first instance I might just throw in the values from the Duke, and see what it feels like in comparison.
