I wanted to take a look to this new avionics of the C172 but I cannot find where it is…
Can it please be made clear, that despite the addition of the Avidyne GPS to the C172, that there is still the option to run the same model C172, with the Garmin GNS GPS.
This is particularly important to those that have a hardware Cockpit (and maybe even the Garmin GPS as a Hardware device in that cockpit) – and I am not aware there is even an Avidyne hardware option for MSFS , even if a hardware cockpit owner wanted to go that Avidyne route.
All the same versions are still there from before. The avidyne’s are in their own categories.
Just look in free flight hangers under the configure tab
Try looking here:
The IFD variants work okay, I’ve tried two so far, but I prefer the analogue version with TDS 750xi to be honest.
One bonus is that the IFD shows NEXRAD weather data, which the TDS cannot do.
Do you perhaps know why they added avidyne over the 530/430?
The ADF and the AP don’t work and no cockpit lights in the 172 Avidyne.
I tried spawning on the runway and both AP and ADF worked. So maybe I’m missing something when spawning cold and dark.
The 530/430 are already in the sim as the 172 Classic version.
Yes, I know they are. Im wondering what’s so different about the avidyne, apart from radar for weather.
Touch screen and voice.
Ah, your post said “over the 530/430” as if it replaced them - my understanding is there’s quite a lot more the Avidyne can do, and they are designed to be easy replacements for the 530/430 IRL as upgrades. I believe the larger unit also has synthetic vision, which none of the smaller Garmin units have.
Thanks for the info ![]()
There’s never normally a fundamental difference in functionality. It’s just an era thing. Same applies with other equipment with say different era ADI’s or engine instrumentation. The interface may be different and they might have some newer features. The IFD’s being newer tech than the GNS. Fundamentally though they contain GPS, Nav and Com just like the GNS and GTN.
