The Basler BT-67 is derived from the famous Douglas DC-3; it is also suited for flying in the cold regions of the Arctic and extreme Alaska, and it is missing from MSFS 2024.
Supposedly FSLabs was starting to develop one, but it might take a long time. Then there are other considerations to think about…
I am taking a guess that they used to have most of the knowledge and connections with the folks who operated the real thing and or serviced it and the detailed knowledge of how the real thing flew and its performance in different conditions. It’s a unique machine.
The fact they’ve already done a few versions of it for various Flight Sims gives them a head start in areas like the AFCS logic. For someone else starting fresh, they have to learn the intricacies of the real thing, not easy when it doesn’t fly anymore and sadly some of the folks who did fly it are no longer with us, either through old age or struck down by disease. ![]()
As an Italian, I care a lot about this aircraft. I hope some third-party developer will create the Piper PA-12. I will also show you a video made in Italy where a pilot risked killing mountain skiers while taking off from the famous Lys Glacier near Monte Rosa.
Mountain pilots are a real thing—they exist in France, Italy, Switzerland, and also in Austria. You need to be a very experienced pilot to be a mountain pilot.
That pilot should have their licence revoked, crazy ![]()
No to mention the fact that this weird airframe actually changed its physical dimension during flight…not sure if it would be noteable in the sim environment but as we are talking “study level”…
I don’t know if you could do that, but I do remember the FSLabs one (and its predecessor) were pretty accurate. There were charts of the real one with times to reach particular altitudes in certain weather conditions and it was quite accurate.
On the FSL one you could even play around with the air groups and would see the same temperature sensing behaviour as the real one. AFCS behaviour all very much the same as the real thing. In flight thrust reverse on the inboard engines was possible.
It was certainly complex - but with some prior research on the systems you could certainly get into it and enjoy the machine. I wonder what a new one would be like with a virtual reality headset and MSFS 2024 or even MSFS 2020. On the flights down to Barbados or down to Bahrain and getting up near 60,000ft (on those routes it was a chance).
Of all the planes I’ve had in Flight Simulator, that one was the most satisfying. I sadly never got to go on the real one in service, it went out of service a couple of years before I had the means to be able to fly on it.
Yes, Dassault Mercure is a nice choice for a simmer. We often do not have enough time to simulate a complete airliner flight and Mercure can help here doing short domestic flights. Just look at her cruise speed, climb - this is what we simmers need: 27 minutes Paris-Lyon or 31 min Paris-Bordeaux in a non-glass cockpit with AoA indicator+HUD, CAT3A possible:) including 1000 m/min full power climb all the way to 35000 feet, 0.85M cruise and a diving descend on 380 knots almost all the way down with air brakes ON at 6000 feet (think of passenger feelings), speed is reducing at 11000 feet 8 km from runway:)
One of them is still alive and there are people who know her.
Unfortunately the the Mercure 200 – with two Snecma/General Electric CFM 56 engines did not happen IRL, but it is possible to recreate her in the Sim:)))
The Beaufighter had 4 cannons and 6 machine guns …. very potent
and below, the Boulton Paul Defiant
Night fighter, with radar, get underneath the opponent and game over.
Amen to both your suggestions.
I would love a Bristol Beaufighter, especially the Australian-made Mk 21 with its upgraded engines and armament. See the “Variants” section of the Beaufighter Wikipedia page.
Virtavia is has BP Defiant in the wings. See the SOH Forums for a discussion, and Virtavia’s website for the product page.
I am still hoping Flying Iron or Just Flight will produce a de Havilland Hornet, however.
The one aircraft I have always wanted and would pay for is the……..
SA341/2 Gazelle Helicopter in British Army Camo with full vr mode.
Wow, thanks for the videos. What an awesome machine. Will put competition for the c-130’s and A400’s for sure.
The Boeing 767 200, 767 300/300ER and DC4 would be to way to op in career mode with how much you can do with those aircraft ![]()
What about the DC3 in Career?
