Which are your "Top favourite Cities/Places" with the best Photogrammetry to fly in? MSFS2024 + MSFS2020 LIST

Nobody gonna mention New York!?

New York wasn’t on my list of favourite places to fly in. I’m surprised to that no one mentioned it yet, but I did fly there the other night and it does have very nice quality PG. Along with San Francisco. So I’ll Add them to the list. I did however get a drop in FPS near the bay area (Golden Gate Bridge) I think it’s something to do with all the trees (this is only in VR though). No problems with FPS whatsoever with NY though.

No. 12 Pamplona is rather great, however it’s in Spain, not Portugal :slightly_smiling_face:

Ahhh it is indeed. Thanks for letting me know. Will correct it now  Was just testing to see who’d notice :joy:

Didn’t see this one listed:
Parma, Italy

Oooohhh, good one!! Why didn’t they mention this one?! (I don’t get it!). Added to my list.

I’ve definitely not been here before. Nice little city!
The PG is great quality, and there are NO AI generated trees making it look like an inner-city jungle here! Just actual PG 3D trees that look GREAT (best I have seen in fact!). Wish they could all be like this.

There is a POI (hand crafted) too, the Duomo Di Parma which blends in very well because the PG is pretty sharp here. Performance on my rig is great. And there is some tasty ham in the shops!

EDIT: It’s not a small area either. About 8 mile radius around the centre. Good thing is the quality remains equally high right out into the suburbs. Often it gets lower resolution the further out you get but this is super detail everywhere. Good find!

We must have missed a TON more due to Asobo not knowing what they have done lol

Thanks @Snowleopard3295 for that one, it’s a brilliant find! Added it to the list. Must agree with @Baracus250 it’s awesome PG. Best quality I’ve seen in the sim and it makes a huge difference not having AI generated trees everywhere. Wonder how many more undiscovered places there are to find  It got an 11 out of 10 just because it’s such good quality!

I apologize, Parma’s listed in the PG city list in the Italy world update.

But Bologna I can’t find and it is very nice, did a sunrise flyover and must be getting back,
Ciao! Haha

No need to apologise. It doesn’t matter if it’s listed in the World Updates, Many places are listed in the Updates but it doesn’t mean they’re any good hence this Topic, so it saves other people wasting time flying in bad PG areas haha.

Thanks for the suggestion of Bologna, Will fly there in a bit to check it out

Oh I must have missed that then!

EDIT: I did miss it, and lots of others! (bold ones)

Just flew from Parma to Bologna and I must say it was a nice flight. Bologna is just about as good as Parma, the architecture of all the buildings are really quite nice. Just wish it was PG all the way between the two. But its getting added to the list. Thanks.

Every Sunday I will post an updated list of the Top PG Cities to fly in so long as I get suggestions. If there’s nothing new then I won’t update it till I do and post it the following Sunday :grinning: This will make it easier for people to find instead of having to scroll up to an everchanging list :joy:

Big thank you’s to all of you for all of your suggestions. :+1: :+1: :+1:

I could not resist making a start on looking at some of these that I missed before bed. Going through in alphabetical order, so Ancona first, about mid-way down the east coast of Italy.

OMG!!!

This is getting at least a 10.5 from me (on your scale @AirRhodesia lol). Let’s say 11

It is not the BEST clarity and shapes in the PG (tho not too far off) but it doesn’t even matter. It’s such an interesting area! Nothing else like it. It’s just so… ITALIAN! And I love it. But it’s not like the usual Italian city where they are all quite similar architecturally and built on flat ground. This is REALLY undulating and stretching far out, with beautiful interesting little scattered villages built up right on the tops and ridges of all the hills in the countryside.

The area is pretty vast (I’d say 15 miles inland and even more north to south) and diverse. Mainly to the west and south (I started at LIPY), some amazing little outposts with a great walled fortification on one of them, churches, towers and so on. Very rustic and cute.

The rolling countryside is gorgeous too and there is a lot to see. Take a heli and have a good slow look! See if you can find all those little villages - it’s worth taking your time to find them all as they all have their own character and feeling to them. Love it!

Then you got the main town, which is just WOW :eyes:

South of that I found this stadium built into the ground which I have never seen before:

Much further south there is an EPIC POI (Santuario Di Loreto – just outside the PG area for some reason!).

Man this game can be so good! I feel like I have visited here now. Amazing! That was one of the best flights I’ve ever done in this sim

Mind you, I flew in Zurich earlier today and the performance was absolutely TERRIBLE. Even 30 miles away. Not sure what is up with Switzerland now but it was never this bad for me before!! Constant stutters and hitches :frowning:

I will check at least some of the others from Italy before next Sunday so you can do your update

Re: the lower quality still scoring an 11…

If I may transpose a bird spotting acronym here (not that I am a bird watcher, but I heard Bill Bailey say it on QI quiz show one time!), the “GISS” is important, and this PG, even with the lower quality, has the GISS

General Impression Size and Shape.

Thanks for that very detailed review! I just did a flight there and I totally agree with you.

The PG may not be perfect but the landscape is. Wow just wow! I noticed the little outposts and the churches, very nice indeed. Another thing I noticed were the beaches. They seemed to be very populated, I’m guessing in real life it’s a huge holiday destination.

Thanks for posting that screenshot of the stadium. Its gorgeous! Love the fact it’s built in a way that doesn’t look out of place for such a beautiful landscape. Looks so natural like it belongs there.

I’ve given up flying in Switzerland and Austria for that exact reason the performance is disastrous. So I’ve uninstalled that World Update. It was much better before the update, Innsbruck was nice before now the mountains are just a mess.

Ancona will most definitely be added to the next update with a score of 10.5 :joy: It’s even getting Manual Cached just out of interest to see how much data it is.

Another thing I noticed was the traffic. Seemed to be moving much slower then in other places. Don’t know if it was just a placebo effect but lorries and cars looked much more realistic! It just added to the immersion of an outstanding flight.

You’re right about the sim. It just never ceases to amaze me.

Yeah it’s a good one! I need to go back… spent about 3 hours flying last night then had to go to sleep, but I didn’t get a good enough look at some of those hilltop villages. It’s great!

Sending you a DM about something

This wombat loves Italy IRL. Sounds like I really need to go flying there some!

Does the PG go as far as Loreto Aprutino? Would be a stunning place to visit if so. And Penne just up the road for dinner!

I would love to get PG for Sicily and Sardinia, both beatiful islands.

I really enjoy Venice every time I fly into LIPZ, which is often, because I really enjoy Venice. :joy:

You and your big birds!!! LIPV is the place to land

I’ll have to check. Honestly I could spend from now until 19th November flying JUST in Italy and be a happy bunny. Sicily and Sardinia sure would be nice too, yes!

There are a few freeware options for Sicily and Sardinia, but I have pretty much given up with the ripped PG stuff. It is generally really ugly and bad performance (with a couple of exceptions).

Yes I agree on the PG mods, not often worked well for me so I generally avoid. I installed one yesterday for HK and the sim crashed 3 times in a row when I tried to explore it so I uninstalled it again.

Monteleone Rocca Doria would be another cool little spot, would need PG for the rocks as well. It’s in the province of Sassari in Sardinia but quite a way from the city so the two mods for Sassari probably don’t include it.

I assume you have the Italian Coastlines Project Payware?
