Which CPU?

Hi guys,

I’m currently running an i5 11600k

my system spec is:
i5 11600k
64GB DDR4 ram
MSI 4070ti
2TB 990 PRO ssd

Im thinking of upgrading my CPU as its a bit of a bottleneck compared to the rest of my system.

So I’ve been looking about, budget for CPU is around £3-400 …so im thinking of either the i7 14700k or the Ryzen 9 7900X3D

I’m also thinking of getting a Meta Quest 3 VR setup this year for MSFS so again, which CPU is best for this?

Any info on which cpu is best suited for MSFS much appreciated! ty :slight_smile:

By coincidence, I have the same CPU and it seems to do the job well.
In my case I have a 3080ti and 32GB of DDR4 RAM.

I would think that to update to either of your proposed replacements will necessitate the purchase of a new motherboard and RAM as well as the CPU.
The improvement in MSFS performance for such a large expense is unlikely to be cost effective, or indeed pleasing.
Possibly, it might not even be noticeable.

I7 13700k would be the best on your mainboard keeping temperature and energie management in mind.

In the MSFS2020 climate, I’d be going with the 7900X3D as it is main thread hungry and the X3D chips with their faster cache is ideal and outperforms the intel’s.

That said, we are close to 2024 which may change the way underlying CPU architecture is utilized.

If it were me, I’d sit tight and see what 2024 does.

thanks for info guys, yeh i read about the X3D chips being best for msfs, but like you say, 2024 is around the corner it seems so maybe i should hold off until then.

To be honest past month or so I’ve almost bit the bullet a few times to replace my cpu/mobo/ram so this will be a good excuse to do so! :slight_smile:
