Which GPU for 5800 x3d?

My first new build in many years. I’m still rocking the 1060 in my current build. Here’s what I’ve got so far. Everything but the GPU has been purchased with various black friday deals. Will be running single screen 4k. Maybe VR down the road. I’ve always set my monitor to 25hz and locked FPS there to get smooth performance but with this hardware I’m hoping I can keep it at 60 except in maybe the most demanding situations. I’m an airline guy so I’ll be using the likes of pmdg in the heavy airports but if the videos on youtube are accurate I should still get good performance with this CPU.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D 3.4 GHz 8-Core Processor
CPU Cooler: Asus ROG STRIX LC II 80.95 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler
Motherboard: Gigabyte X570S AORUS MASTER ATX AM4 Motherboard
Memory: Corsair Vengeance LPX 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR4-3200 CL16 Memory
Storage: Western Digital Blue 2 TB 2.5" Solid State Drive
Video Card: Asus TUF GAMING OC GeForce RTX 4090 24 GB Video Card
Case: Corsair 4000D Airflow ATX Mid Tower Case
Power Supply: Super Flower Leadex V Platinum Pro 1000 W 80+ Platinum Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply

The 4090 is impossible to find at the moment and while I wait it has me thinking if it’s even worth it. I’m not one to rebuild every 2 years so I expect this one to last me a while. Would I be better off going for a cheaper 4080 or even 3090ti? I don’t mind waiting but I also don’t want to shell out more than I have to for minimal gain. Reading some other threads it appears the 4080 is overpriced for what you get which is why I’m debating going back to the 3090ti.

You could always use your old 1060 until a better 4090 deal comes along. Also, AMD 7900 XT/XTX are due out in a few weeks and even they don’t end up being as good as predicted there may be a knock down effect to nVidia GPU prices.

Funny enough that thought crossed my mind earlier today. Wonder what kind of performance I would get with a great cpu and a gpu that old

Get the 4080. I have one and it’s more than enough, plus you get dlss 3 with frame generation and you won’t get that on an older 3XXX card.

I am running a 6800 with my 5800x3d.

Very fast combo.

I got lucky and randomly decided to check out a
Micro center in a city I was going to this weekend. Sure enough they had a few 4090s in stock so I ordered one for pickup (well 2 actually but that was accidental). Not in hand yet but I’ll be getting it later today

Thread solved haha.
Your choice is good to satisfy the “maybe VR” requirement. There is no limit to the power required there.
