Thanks. You just made my decision easier whether to buy the Samsung Odyssey Neo G9 or not. I was worried about edge distortion and it looks like its bad - or rather, MSFS yet doesnt make optimal utilization of the pixels on the edges of the super ultrawide screens. I will wait until it does to reconsider the buy. For now, I will stick with 16:9 or 21:9 (I have both monitors already so harm done to my wallet :))
I am the king of scrounging, and when I die, Iāll be the first hedonist to be canonized as Saint Tom the Scrounger, Patron Saint of Horse Traders!
My latest no-cost (fully legal - it didnāt fall of any truckā¦) is an S32AM702UN 32" 4K monitor. There was no box, but what I was using prior was a 40" Samsung TV, and the remote for that works perfectly with the new monitor. If I try to run the sim at 4K, my rig canāt handle it, but even at the same 1080 resolution as before, itās at least twice as sharp. I no longer need to zoom in on the G1000ās engine instruments in order to know when to hit the fuel lever on a t-prop start.
I use an LGTV thatās part of my serviced apartment. Iāll never be able to go back to a small screen again!
Iām using an HP Z27 (27", 4k, 60hz) monitor for MSFS, with a somewhat older Samsung 24" 1080p on the side for things like flight plan / vPilot / Volanta, etc.
Love having the 4K, but with a RTX 3070 and AMD 3800XT, it does seem to be limited to the high-20ās FPS. On occasions where I bump it down to maybe 1440 to get a better framerate, the loss of detail / lack of running at native resolution really shows in the cockpit instrument details/small text/etc⦠So I just keep it at 4K ![]()
Personally, having gone from a 34" Acer Predator 3440x1440 UWQHD for my main sim monitor to a 50" TV, thereās no comparison. The TV was half the price of the monitor and provides nearly true to life size for the sim. Itās hard to look at a smaller monitor quite the same way after using that. I still love my monitor and itās still my primary display for my photo / video editing and other other games. But now I couldnāt imagine running the sim on a desktop monitor any more.
It depends. Curved on its own isnāt necessarily a selling feature nor does it āshow moreā. Having compared many screens, I find that curved only matters if youāre using an ultra-wide at least 32" or bigger. At those sizes, if youāre sitting at the sweet spot (thatās where the R rating of the curve comes into play), the curve basically disappears and you get a wonderful effect of having the screen fill your field of view. It doesnāt show more than a flat screen. It just fills your field of view better. You see the content of the screen vs seeing the edges of the screen since it also fill your peripheral vision.
On smaller monitors or on 16:9 aspect ratio screens, itās nothing more than a gimmick and not worth it. In fact, on small 16:9 screens, I find it more of an annoyance because itās hard to get into that āsweet spotā and you always sorely notice that curvature.
I use 3 identical Dell 32" Curved, 2560x1440. The center and right are on DP, the left HDMI. They are a bit out of alignment while I fine tune the Experimental Multi-monitor setup.
main monitor lg 29" 21:9
side monitor for discord and other applications Samsung SyncMaster 923NW 19"
Android Tablet 10" for MFD
ipad mini 2 for pfd
Nice setup. Looks like easy access to WYN.
Two questions for you.
-
Do you see any distortion of the image on the far end of the screen?
-
Any blooming effect at night with the stars?
How do you go about getting the MFD on to the tablet like that?
-
yes, a little bit, but I fly exclusively in cockpit view and there it is not that badā¦
-
no
Overall I am happy with the 32:9 monitor - the immersion is a leap ahead of traditional 16:9 formats ā¦
40" 4K HDR monitor. I wouldnāt go smaller.. (Also use VR).
Looking at going 48" 4k OLED for even better colour and the push to 120hz, although my 60hz monitor doesnāt really matter in MSFS.
LG 34GP83A-B 34 Inch 21:9 Curved QHD (3440 x 1440) 1ms Nano IPS with 160Hz and G-SYNC Compatibility - Black (34GP83A-B)
its 140hz with 10 bit color depth and can overclock to 160hz at 8 bit color depth
Its pretty nice, powered by a radeon rx 6700 xt. Before I used a regular acer 1080p 60hz monitor and got about 60 fps average. now i get about 45 fps average but no biggie.
Samsung G9 49" (5120x1440) love it
Is there distortion on the edges while in cockpit view? Menus? Also, you notice any blooming around street lights at night or stars? Thanks
I use a 2K monitor, 32 inches with a refresh rate of 120 mHz. Iām quite satisfied with it and not sure of the benefit of moving up to 4K.
I use a 34" Acer 1440p Ultrawide, and two 24" Acer 1080p monitors on each side. I want to go to 48" TVās in a triple setup, Iām wondering if anyone with a similar setup can attest to reflection off the TVās? I feel like they would really reflect off each other, which makes me lean to sticking with matte monitors.
Distortion? I would say it looks slightly stretched in cockpit view but not enough to make it look terrible. But noticeable. This is not the case in menus and I donāt notice any blooming around lights, not at of the normal with the bloom settings on.
