Which parts of the world would you most like to see improved?

I’ll be hyped for every World Update that comes along, but there are some areas that would excite me the most. Off the top of my head:

  • South America: My home continent, that’s all.

  • New Zealand/South Pacific: One of my favorite areas to fly on in FSX/P3D, currently being very let down by the sim. Also, Auckland photogrammetry (or even just POIs) would be nice.

  • East Asia: Taiwan and South Korea could use some work, maybe combine them with a second pass at Japan. If China can be improved as well, that would be nice too.

  • Visegrad: The mountains of Slovakia don’t look too good right now, and Warsaw would look amazing on photogrammetry.

  • ASEAN: From what I’ve seen of it, it’s already pretty good (except for Sumatra), but there is room for improvement. I’m thinking POIs.

Canada, but I may be biased

I’ve recently flown a lot in China and noticed how low quality the scenery is. Both the imagery as well as the amount of pop-in that occurs there. The country is huge so it could use its own World Update. The big cities without photogrammetry look quite poor as well. Asia as a whole is a neglected region in MSFS (with the exception of Japan). I wish World Updates weren’t governed by market research but geographic interests.

I know it involves extra cost but NZ is really well covered and slowly getting better.
So my other favourite areas are South Africa and Thailand down to Singapore. These really need improvement!

Pacific Northwest of the United States plus British Columbia. A lot of the terrain data is very low resolution here, despite 2 “United States” world updates.

New Zealand has amazing addons from NZA, Orbx has Auckland City and the Mesh which makes it pretty good.

Personally i’d like to see everywhere improved, not one specific place. Maybe improve the terrible looking autogen trees, possibly code water to terraform the area flat instead of being on the sides of hills etc. Lots can be done globally.

I saw the title and expected answers like : “the trees, better trees” or “fish - we need more fish”.

The major regions that have had no updates at all so far are:

  • Indian sub continent
  • Africa and Middle East
  • Central and South America

The guy from Aotearoa Creations had an amazing mod that used real world vegetation mapping data for all of NZ. It does have a few performance issues especially when first starting a flight but was worth it, I still use it. Unfortunately the website seems to have been down for a while, not sure you can still get it.

This is a recent flight out of NZMR Murchison with the vegetation mod enabled.

Alaska.

Although the mesh is great, and knowing that is very complicate (even impossible in certain regions) to obtain a good quality aerial photos of this region, the depiction of the scenery using the default/offline texture (I suppose using a similar landclass method of the former FS) and vector information (coast, lakes, rivers, etc) in those places where there is no aerial photos available, is below than the FSX standard.

The coast and the rivers are very low poly. It seems they are using raw information from OpenStreetMaps, and sadly the opensource info of Alaska is highly limited.

Call my attention all these problems, because Alaska always has been one of main reference places of the FS community thanks to all the bush flying and cargo ops from places like Anchorage. In FSX, even in FS2004, thanks to Holger Sandmann and company, we enjoyed a high quality synthetic (landclass) representation of these places. Even areas like Tongass or Misty Fjords have a better landclass and vectorial descriptions in FS2004 than in this version.

In my humble opinion Alaska is enough big, complex and diverse and having been an important destination in the FS during all its past versions that deserved a world update for itself.

Islands of Hawaii,

And the use of better Satelitephotos in all Regions of the World. Specially better Photos in Photogrametrie Citys. There ara many Citys where the Buildings look great but the Satelitepictures are terrible.

I often fly in the evening and since I overwhelmingly fly real time (in Europe) I tend to fly in NA a lot. US is okay I guess, but I’d rather fly in Canada. It’s just that the meshes there can be pretty awful. So subjectively to me it’s definitely Canada. Though I’d happily take South America (particularly Andes region, the Amazon basin and Patagonia) too. New Guinea and Pacific Islands would also be technically interesting, but just like with Japan and Australia I would probably end up flying there practically never.

South America and parts of Asia

Actually off topic, but I very rarely fly in these parts because its night time when I want to fly (UK), what do you guys do when you want to fly and look at the scenery in parts that are normally at night.
I like to use live weather, would I need to disable that if I changed the time?

Live Weather and Live Time are totally separate options in the weather window.
