Which VR is better? Oculus?

I’ve just bought myself a Quest 2 for Flight sim. I was holding out for a G2 but decided it made more sense to spend a bit less on a headset just in case I don’t take to it, I’ve only used VR briefly.

If I decide VR is the thing for me I can always sell my Quest 2 and get a G2 at a later date. They’re difficult to get hold of at the moment anyway.

I hate Facebook but I’ve got an account so I’m good to go.

What a great response and well thought out reply. Thanks for taking the time to provide more useful info :slightly_smiling_face:

So … i’ve done a little bit of reading being a complete VR novice (suppose we all have to start somewhere) and everything you say jells with what i’m learning. I know nothing about Facebook but i’m prepared to accept what you say.

And yet … i’m still uneasy with the forced Facebook membership, the likely stream of adverts and the suspected increased tracking. I obviously know that the tracking element is part of everyday life now but to have a product’s continued use and availability dependant on a social account seems to take the whole thing up to another level. It’s a little bit like a parent or guardian saying ‘play nicely and behave and we’ll keep on letting you play with your nice, new, and expensive toys’.

The Quest 2 is obviously great value but I am forced to ask myself why this is so. The headset must be marketed around cost price so why is this the case? Maybe to knock out the competition so that there will be fewer players in the market place? Increase Facebook revenues somehow from the extra Oculus Quest customers?

Maybe i’m being too suspicious here and looking for things that don’t exist. And yet … I still have an uneasy feeling. :slightly_smiling_face::slightly_smiling_face::slightly_smiling_face:

No mura here with Reverb G1 and the tracking isn’t ‘horrible’ at all. I’s true the Reverbs are better for simmers and low paced VR experiences than FPS and waving around games.

Yes, me too. I’ve obviously known about it for years but I have had little interest in it because of performance issues and the expense of a decent system.

It now looks though that the hardware is getting a lot better and prices coming down. Hence my renewed interest :slightly_smiling_face:

Well they have their own store from which they make revenue, so they logically want as much people on their platform buying from their store. Having a high quality headset for a really low price will attract as much people as possible. They can sell it under cost price because people will buy games from their store and it will also strengthen their market position. But is it actually known information that they are selling under cost price? These companies can buy in bulk and mass produce, so that will always be a lot cheaper, just like the Xbox and Sony PS.

I think people are being a little overly suspicious at times when a large company is invested, while there are lots of small companies doing the same (and more) under the radar. But to each his own opinion of course.

Yes, maybe :slightly_smiling_face:

Thanks everyone. I learned a lot from you. I found out when you have question to buy something just you ask here. A lot of big gun come out and shoot it. That will clear your muddy mind. I love it. Thanks.

How much memory you got?

Is the Quest 2 a good choice? I have a HTC Vive (first Gen).
Is the FOV about the same?

It is a good choice (See my loooong reply above), tho the consensus is the FOV is around 5-10 degrees smaller

Oh I see. Even I think the FOV of the HTC vive is quite bad. So I still don’t know which headset I should get next.

Why people is getting rid of them?

Upgrading for g2. Not saying everyone is. Just seen a bunch for sale since before Xmas is all. Might be able to sneak a lightly used one.

Happy with my Q2 64GB got it cheap off Amazon. Can still use it standalone for other stuff if need be!

Is that 64gb enough I see the 256gb version for 100$ more although DCS,X-PLANE and this is the only programs I use.

Don’t think you need 256Gb one. That’s for stand alone , not connected to a PC software games.

You can wirelessly use other games. It’s sold as a PC optional unit. Has its own processor.

You can even run PC games on the Quest 2 wireless through Virtual Desktop (paid app). Works quite well, better than expected.

After looking at the different comparisons I will save and get the G2 headset its a bit pricy but I think its worth the extra cash.If its in your budget get the G2 set.

THIS.
Listen guys, it is very easy:
-The G2 is better. FULL STOP.
-BUT, having the Quest 2 at only 349€ it is very difficult to justify spending 250€ more just to get a few more pixels out of it.

If you have the budget go for the G2, without a doubt, but if you have a medium income and just want to enjoy VR with GA planes, the Quest 2 quality is more than enough.
You will have to lean in in order to read the instruments on the airliners, but you will save a lot of money.

EDIT: Also take into account that the G2 requires a beefier pc to run smooth, due to its increased screen quality.

I own a Samsung Odyssey Plus in addition to my Rift S…I just can’t be bothered to try the sim in WMR software at this point.
