In order to move this from an anger venting list, to a means of helping the devs solve this list, here is my setup/experience.
Bug behavior:
- Usually no white dot. It will briefly flash on/off if I switch from cockpit to exterior view and back to cockpit if the mouse pointer is visible when I do this. If the mouse pointer is hidden, then no dot appears.
- Regularly see white outline on various glass panels.
Examples:
- ATR glass panels
- A310 glass panels
- ICON A5 Garmin Aera
- TBM 930 GTCs only
- Carenado C170B Garmin Aera
- FSReborn Sting S4 Garmin displays
- PMDG 737-700 glass displays
Hardware:
- PC
- Wired keyboard
- Wired mouse
- Tobii Eye Tracker 5
- Thrustmaster Boeing yoke
- Thrustmaster Boeing throttle quadrant 1&2
- Thrustmaster Boeing throttle quadrant 3&4
- Thrustmaster TPR rudder pedals
- Xbox controller
Sim control type:
- Legacy
- No tooltips
Camera Mappings:
- Boeing yoke right thumb X/Y axis hat:
• External View Yaw Axis
• External View Pitch Axis - Xbox Controller:
• Default Cockpit & External view mappings
Notes:
-
Most of the time I launch the sim with the Xbox controller turned off and it will remain off during a sim session. In other words, the sim is oblivious to its existence. The glass display white outline will occur regardless, so it is not tied to the Xbox controller’s presence.
-
These key points are the issue, for me:
- If I load C&D into the cockpit, I initially have no white outline. If I simply switch to the External camera and switch right back I will have the white outline if the mouse pointer was over a glass panel when the camera view switching occurs.
- The white outline will only occur if my mouse pointer is placed over a glass panel. If I leave the mouse pointer there and allow it to disappear, then the panel will be outlined as I turn my head via Tobii when the, now, hidden mouse pointer would cross over the display.
- If the mouse pointer is nowhere near the displays when I switch to external view, then the outline won’t appear when I switch back. This is because the issue is tied to the position of the hidden mouse pointer being over one of the displays.
- If I move the mouse pointer, the white outline disappears and stays away until I do something such as switch to external view (or whatever other as yet unidentified action) causes it to return.
Regarding the Xbox controller:
Using an Xbox Controller to look around causes the white dot to appear, however I understand this is the currently intended action when using an Xbox controller. Since I never use the Xbox controller for looking around I don’t get the dot. I mainly use the Xbox controller for controlling the drone, but since I rarely do anything with the drone, the controller’s influence on the issue, for me, is essentially nil. However, messing around with the controller during this write-up revealed how it definitely causes the dot to appear and that could be an issue for those who use it regularly.
I hope this helps!
Note: All these video clips were made with the Xbox controller off prior to sim launch and it remained off. In other words, the sim was unaware of the controller.
