White Flashes Rift S

Hi,
For the last 2-3 days im getting white flashes with my Rift S. I have been using FS in VR since the start of january and have not had this before. VR has been running smooth with no issues since i installed and now its unplayable.
The white flash also makes the screen jump around, its not really something you can ‘get around’ and the screen is jumping all over. This happens every 1-3 seconds. I have tried 2 different Nvidia drivers. I have tried it with and without the UK update. I have 1 marketplace add-on which i uninstalled but no change.
I can only tie this is with the Oculus software update - but this cannot be reverted to an old version. Any ideas?
Dan

Turn beta mode off and it will install update 25 oculus rift

I’'m getting this too, not as frequently though, and on the Quest. Funny thing though, I was looking behind me once when it flashed and I saw that it was the result of an image of my plane wing projected out below the cockpit, rather than overhead as the wing actually is. A very strange “hickkup” indeed. I don’t know if that helps identify the problem or not.

thats doesn’t work for everyone… it didnt for me.

For the one removing the beta flag wasn’t enough, this fix as fixed it : you should do a repair using the setup program of oculus, or fully uninstall Oculus, dowload the Oculus setup and reinstall (it’s what the repair option do more or less). Saying that I don’t know what happen with save games if you have any… I didn’t try this.

tried that too… didnt stop the white flashes… they are worse than ever now

There are many threads running about this problem.

It seems to have got worse with the recent oculus update, those flashes are in fact single frame external views of the aircraft and world, and are accompanied by very brief external sounds.

I’m sitting tight hoping for an oculus fix as I have many other oculus apps that I wouldn’t want to upset with a complete oculus re install.

only sometimes…

i have been following and played a part in most of these white flash threads… the truth is… we Dont know whats causing it, and we Dont know how to fix it… some things work for some, whereas they dont do anything for others… personally i think the fault lies with Both Oculus software And Msfs… some sort of clash… thats why its so difficult to find a panacea

I’m sorry if going out beta Oculus Software or reinstalling or repairing Oculus software didn’t fix the flash. I stopped flying with MSFS 2 days after the last world update and are waiting for the next one. But one thing I’m sure is for the last week I’m playing a lot of VR Sim and Games and I don’t have this problem which only appeared in MSFS from the very begining, at a lower rate.

My guess is MSFS is doing something dirty on the VR side which collude with the Oculus Software and things are getting worse with the last update of MSFS and Oculus Beta v26.x. As all my other VR apps still working fine with beta v26.x and I never experimented such flash (or whatever it is, a new head position during only one frame more probably) the problem seems to come from MSFS program IMHO…

Let’s hope MSFS Devs and Oculus ones work together to fix this quickly.

Thanks for your advice and replies. Up to now I have followed your advice and done the following. Unpicked the beta test program button. Then clicked restart oculus (box above the beta button). On restart it done a full software update (a revert?)
I started up MSFS and left the oculus debug tool completely on standard settings. CTRL and TAB to activate VR when on world map mode, then started clicked fly. I experienced 2 white flashes on the loading screen to which I thought it hadn’t worked, and then I started at the gate and no more flashes. Thank you for the advice!

It’s also worth saying that i did raise a ticket with oculus about this and got no response from them

The flash will probably not disappear completely until they found and fix the problem. It’s an issue which is in MSFS from day one, but was less frequent…

We have a thread in Oculus forum about this problem in MSFS, and the recent update of the Oculus forum website prevented us during those last 4 days to keep it alive. If you have the habit to go their, don’t forget to add your stone in it

I do think that doing turning the beta off and letting itself do a software reinstall has fixed it completely for me. In my latest flight I didnt have any white flashes. Definitely need to put my pixel override back to 1.4 in the debug tool though, the cockpit readability is a lot different with it off. hopefully this won’t cause any issues to come back

Unchecked beta and auto installed 10 updates. Very strange, best picture I ever had with the rift s and hardly any flashes.

i did that, worked better for a while, but flashes came back
