Why all the negativity

The more I read these forums the more I get depressed with the constant Negativity. C’mon people this is a $100 piece of software, that’s been around for a month. If you want true flight simulation go and blow a couple of million on a full flight training simulator, or a cheaper option, about 15K on learning how to really fly. Comparisons between MSFS (regardless of marketing videos, and they are just that) and simulators that have been in development for 10 years or more is not comparing apples with apples. Let’s jump to the future 10 years from now and let’s say that the sim is continuously updated as with XPlane or P3D. What do you think the outcome will be then? Will it be a different comparison?

For me with all the bugs and issues, I am happy where this is for an early release. I still remember having all the flight sims from about FS98 when I could first afford hardware that could marginally replicate the joys of flight. It was not that long ago, even with OCkd CPUs Memory and Video cards that we still had to modify and tweak the config files for FSX, probably spending more time tweaking than flying. I probably spent close to $2000 on addons to get even close to the visuals I have got out of the box with MSFS.

Have we really all become that entitled? That precious and with “must have it now” attitudes seem to be governing our lives?? We should all just take a chill pill, embrace what we have been given, and if it doesn’t meet our expectations now, either go back to a Sim that does, or just wait, and see what happens with your $100 game, by providing constructive and well-documented bug reports to the developers.

The planes will come. The sceneries will come, and with positive and constructive feedback, the core game engine will improve.

Peace out.

I’m enjoying it, I have little need to be on these forums due to the lack of problems I have. I imagine that those with little to no problems, don’t need to look at these forums.

Yup. I’m not modifying any config files and playing as it is. Fixes will come in patches eventually. Overall I’m happy with what we have. If we waited for it to be 100% or even 90%, we’d be waiting even longer for it to be released and people would be mad about that.

Re the negativity, it’s mainly down to a small group of constant complainers plus now and then someone throws a strop and threatens legal action, demanding a refund or storming off to another sim. Think of them as similar to hemorrhoids ; somewhat irritating but curable. The cure here is the block user function accessible through preferences. It makes this place far more bearable👍

Great post. I do feel for those who can’t get it to run at all. But I’m loving the sim. Sure, many features don’t work. But plenty do. I’ve probably got 50 hours driving the little Shock Ultra to all four corners of the world. If you haven’t been there, check out Tignes, France. Or Robinson Crusoe Island, Chile. Amazing! And although the aerodynamics are simplified, I’m still amazed at the technology with live weather, incredible graphics, and total immersion. It’s been a great opportunity to brush up on my dead reckoning and pilotage skills. And I’m really excited knowing it’s only going to get better. All this for a hundred bucks!

Finally positivity. I’m loving it also. Glad it was released but sucks that so many are having major issues. It will get better as long as they don’t abandon it. I had one crash in 32 hours flying and that sucks but the rest is acceptable for me this early in. Plus I’m not a pilot in real life so basically clueless. FSX gave me more trouble than this for quite a while.

I get a little upset because a lot of the same bug and issues (ATC, A320, and the G1/3000’s, for examples) were all present in the alpha. They were well reported and yet they remain to this day. It was clear the game was not ready for public release and by releasing it, it feels like a money grab. Yes, it’s very pretty and fairly playable, but the knowledge they could have gained from the alpha to polish the sim simply went seemingly unanswered. ATC in FSX was objectively better than the one we have today, and that’s almost inexcusable coming as a continuation title.

Additionally, quality control and internal testing has proven to be inadequate, as recent patches introduce bugs that have literally made the game almost unplayable (controller sensitivity coupled with resetting controller profiles). This isn’t an independent developer with an early access title, this is live and sold as a fully functioning game, so players expect things like controls to work and every aspect of the game be a step forward from earlier titles.

An I upset personally? Not really. I’ll still struggle through the bugs and quirks because flight is my passion, but I know others will be less eager to live with the growing pains of a new sim. I don’t mind early access titles, but this game wasn’t, and still isn’t ready for public distribution, IMO.

The good news is that I don’t think a lot of this is coming from the normal flight sim community; I think most of it is coming from the newer crowd - the ones that aren’t familiar with how the genre works, where it’s coming from, or where it’s going.

A big part of this crowd came here expecting DCS with civilian planes. They’re now upset that not every bit and bob is modelled, and everything is a bit generic.

Another part of this crowd came here expecting GTA 6 or Euro Airplane Simulator. They’re now upset that you can’t manage a company, planes don’t explode, and that the scenery looks terrible as they drone-cam around the streets.

And then, of course, there are the people who simply wanted the sim to fail from the very beginning. They’re now marching in the streets to make sure everyone knows how bad they think the game is.

How the game works huh? Does that include the AP ascending at 6000 feet per minute? Is that how normal flights work?

Well there you go with my point proven. There’s another one straight on the list. Anyway, where were we?

Looks like it didn’t take long to draw out the type of person I was talking about. Unintelligent non-constructive input to a thread and personal insults. Sigh

Money doesn’t write code. This is still a piece of software developed by humans. Don’t think the million dollar, full motion sims don’t have their flaws. Don’t think every aircraft is perfect either.

But neither of those change the fact the game was not ready to hit the market.

I agree it was rushed out, and most of us following the development were surprised at the release date. But that would not be a developers decision I would be thinking. Anyway, we got what we got, and I guess it is now up to the community to come together and make it better. I guess that if people are annoyed they have paid $130 for non working aircraft, could go out and buy the aircraft of their choice  … most of these in the game are starting at about $20K upwards… I just dont have that budget

Why ? My answer will be very simple :

  • Live Weather is not fixed. The wind reports on ground are not reliable (you may check it with an aircraft running and winds displayed on the PFD).
  • When the last update was available, the sim crashed all times because I wanted to fly in the north of France. The servers were out…
  • Sensibility settings have disappeared, as my previous legs in bush activities : it shows that updates are launched in the hurry, without being tested seriously.
  • 120 euros : I think it’s too expensive to get a software in beta stage…
By the way, I am agree with you : to get good planes, we have to wait for some addons, especially for liners. I never fly in stock aircrafts in x-plane for example.

You have hit the nail on the head. To those saying that negativity is all coming from newcomers - I feel a bit insulted by that. I’ve been simming for many years, FS95, FS98, FS9, X-Plane and now FS2020. Ignoring X-Plane, but comparing this sim to the other previous Microsoft sims, it is better in almost every single way. HOWEVER, I think it is absolutely ridiculous that a) Default aircraft and systems are broken and b) Putting patches out is making them even worse. The whole point of the sim is to be able to fly and simulate (as far as possible) the flying process. No matter how basic the aircraft and systems, there really isn’t an excuse for them to not function in a usable manner at all. FS9 default aircraft might have been more basic and limited, but at least you could fly the ■■■■ things! Yes bugs are always a thing and I totally understand and accept that, but… an engine just dying after startup? Autopilot sending you into violent dives? Systems randomly switching off mid-flight? This is critical functionality. Imagine you download the brand new version of GTA and aren’t able to hijack a car. Or you’ve just got the latest RPG but you can’t fire any weapons because that function has a glitch. Would you be happy?

Try alt/tab-ing?

Only way is task manager to kill it…

FINALY!, a topic with a HAPPY subject :+1::grin:I’m also happy with this sim, it’s a huge step forward compared to other simulators. Of course there is still lots to improve, but they will fix things and with all the coming freeware / payware add-ons in the future i’m sure the next ten years will be great.:+1::airplane::flight_departure::flight_arrival::grinning:
