That is the first course in my lesson when I wanted to get a pilot license. I wish I had done that but at my age the flight sim world is the next best thing. I started flying sims back in in 1990 and even joined a virtual Alaska airlines. That is what dove me into making the Alaska Scenery for FS (forget the version, maybe 4) I love being in a small aircraft and do fly sometimes at training schools with a instructor (he lets me do simple things although the last one did let me take off. (after a good amount of ground school).
I enjoy learning about aircrafts, mostly twins non jet and flying VFR. It got a lot better when things like PilotEdge or VatSim came around. I have been flying in Southern California a number of times in the C152 because my boss was a pilot and we flew to Catalina a number of times for lunch.
One thing I really like on MSFS 2020 and True Earth with Orbx is more realism. I know we have a buggy application now with 2020 but I have a couple of planes working well (G58 and D40) It’s great flying around SoCa seeing the areas I have lived.
My sim is a 55 inch 4K sony with hardware for everything needed on a smaller aircraft. The butt Kicker adds a little flavor. I plan to get a G1000 hardware unit in my Sim one day. But it is cool now talking with ATC (PilotEdge) with a real headset. My task the next few months is to learn IFR now that I have VFR done cold.
So I leave you with this, a sim is a way for us to fly and enjoy the feeling of flying a plane with getting off the ground. Not the same as a real aircraft but it will do. I thought I would share my friends sim, it is a 737 on a platform, he built everything. It is cool flying in it.
