Why does the FLCH button seemingly want to murder you?

Example in this video after setting an altitude and clicking FLCH.

I’ve had this in multiple different aircraft. Why does it suddenly want to start descending at 6000+fpm???

Its because the PID values for flc are GIGANTIC. Like, way way way larger than any of the other AP modes. It’s a very easy fix with just a bit of tuning time. Unfortunately, the files for the DLC planes are locked and the AP controller code for all the other planes have been hidden away in some unknown location.

I would suggest using your vertical decent/climb indicator to achieve your rate of decent.

Yeah I usually do. And if you see in the video I switch to using VS. Just really wanted to demonstrate how much FLCH sucks right now…
