Why haven’t ground de icing crews been added yet?

So I was getting ready for a flight from PEK (Beijing Capital International Airport) to ICN (Incheon) using live weather and captain sims 777-200 and I had to abandon the whole flight as it was impossible to actually see out of the flight deck. The temps outside the aircraft were minus -6c before eventually dropping to -10c. I feel like if the sim had the option of a de-icing crew it would make the sim more realistic especially when it’s freezing at ground level as per the photos.

I asked about this awhile ago as I was kind of surprised that something hadn’t been developed yet (more surprised that there was no third party for this).

I did mention it to the team that makes Pushback Toolbar as they have allot of features and they said they would look into this.

But I agree, I’d love a de-ice op!

This is an understandable request. But I must admit that, personally, I’d prefer that they fix the core sim issues before adding more features.

Like skypilot said, maybe it should be left to a third party at the moment.

Hopefully they do. It wouldn’t bother me as much, but since it looks like its only the 320neo and the 747, (in terms of jet liners) that have wind shield de icing I think its a must as the 787 and 777’s don’t have that option just like their real life counter parts. So its not like I just hit a button and wait for it to clear up

I think the ground de-icing crews are all looking for the lost batons for the air marshals…

Yea I certainly get what you’re saying. For myself personally, it just adds another layer of immersion / realism which is what I seek out most within the SIM so even if I had windshield de-icing if conditions requried I’d build that time in my flight plan to hit the de-ice pad

An automated de-icing center.
When the temp is 0C or below aircraft wishing for de-icing would taxi to an de-icing area of the airport.
This would be automated similar to a car wash but with out the building. The aircraft would taxi through the de-icing center and on the left and right side would be automated de-icing equipment. They would then continue to their respective take off points.

I have to agree with others, this seems like a third party mod situation, too many animations and time for Asobo, I’d rather they concentrate on polishing what we have, get the default aircraft AI and ground systems on point first.

I used to deice aircraft as part of my job. We actually considered it art; carving an airplane out of ice!

QUICK work around –

You have TWO options :-

OPTION ONE

  1. Select Clear Skies weather
  2. Turn up air temperature to 30C
  3. Wait for Ice to melt (This is the work around simulation of de-icing)
  4. When Ice has melted, switch back to real weather.
  5. Expedite takeoff, before you Ice up again

OPTION TWO

  1. Sit on the ground for a year or two, and hope that Asobo introduce a de-icing system in MSFS, and if they do, or some other Dev does, expect to pay for it .

Really depends if you want to find excuses NOT to fly, or you want to FLY !!

No Kidding ! I agree with you. They “Really” need to fix all of the “Core” program issues first.
As an alternative, maybe a third party dev can create and market a nice little deicer that will de-ice your aircraft at the call of a button. Well, for a price, of course.

What “He” said, ( after I said it ) LOL j/k

Never hurts to re-iterate a point except that I didn’t quite get the purpose of yours.

My point was -

  • You can sit on the ground and make excuses that the sim is UNUSABLE, and you cannot fly

or

  • You can work around the limitations, and go and have a nice, enjoyable flight.

I think you could just turn off icing effect and turn it back on once about to roll out?

Edit: If that works that’s a micro-mod hotkey?

No point to my continuing… Back to resolving core program issues…

When ground de-icing crews are introduced also the ORIGINAL icing from the early Flight Sim days must be brought back.

This joke of some minor ice crystals on the edges of the windshield and the tip of the propeller and that´s all even with minus 40°C during a foggy day in Alaska is nothing - the original iconic and superb icing effect the Flight Sim had in it´s early days must be brought back

This was true icing, and a true danger while flying:

If the aircraft does not have an de-icing panel implemented (which a Boeing 777-200 should have) then there is a keyboard command for it that does the same job.

I was remembering when I was stuck in the bucket when the motor failed and since time was of the essence they grabbed another deicer and left me up in the bucket for 30 minutes until they got the flight out. I do not miss those days, especially this time of the year when the travelers go up and the minimums go down.

GSX - whenever that comes out for MSFS should have the deicing crews. GSX did have them for FSX/P3D. I miss GSX….
