Why in the World did I have to reconfigure my entire setup after latest update? (Again)

This is beyond frustrating!

After this weeks update, I had to reconfigure my entire settings options before the game would even load. It was as if I had never played the Sim before!

Now my controls in cockpit are backwards and the view just moves by itself!

It may not seem like a big deal, but I had it fine tuned after a year of playing and having to go in and reconfigure it all is infuriating.

How can this kind of thing keep happening? I have had this happen at least a handful of times after updates since opening day!

Not fun. So tired of it.

Quality control is the biggest broken feature of this sim, by far.

Ehh… just assume that for every update you might need to reconfigure the settings again. Been living with that mindset this whole time, so I’m always prepared and never caught off-guard.

This is another reason I’m glad I bought the Steam version.

I really do not know why but my experience is different to yours in that I sometimes need to change something but never control settings or bindings and to be honest I cannot remember the last time or what I had to change. I will try to remember what happens next time, sorry you are having this trouble.

Mine is the Steam version.

Just can’t figure out why the keep erasing our settings files.

We should at least be able to save them offline so we can just paste them back in when this happens.

My time is limited for simming so having to spend time reconfiguring really bites!

I thought settings were in the cloud [what ever that is].
Edit: That is bad.

Well, I’m not sure what’s happening.

Turns out my settings for my controller were saved. I just had to select them from the drop down menu.
That used to not be the case. Once they were lost, they were lost. At least now they are backed up.

However all game settings, like audio, graphics, user interface, traffic, assistance, etc were all reset and I had to go thru each option and set it all up again. It was like a I was a first time user.

Now of course, initially my anger stemmed from thinking I had lost my controller setting too, but I did not thanks to them being saved server side. However, this is still frustrating to have the other options just wiped away.

Still though, updates concern me more than they excite me.

All is well now as all settings have been re-tweaked and I’m back to flying.

Now I just have to deal with it hanging on exit and me having to Alt F4 to exit the game.

This sim is born to troubles as surely as sparks fly upward. :exploding_head:

I have been asking this same question since about 6 months ago. WHY??? does every update mess with my settings??? I am a mastering engineer and use Wavelab for my DAW and it would be super upset if everytime I updated that program my settings got changed. I really don’t see WHY this is a continuing problem. Why can’t the updates just stay away from resetting my personal settings. This has never been explained properly. FWIW

Even on the Steam version, it’s still saved on the cloud in your Microsoft Xbox account, which is obviously needs to be linked to the Steam account as well.

Things from controller profiles, to general settings, as well as any marketplace addons that you have installed through the content manager, all are saved. So the next time you need to install the whole sim, all the addons will be reinstalled with it. So if you want to completely remove it from your sim, you have to remove it from the content manager, have it synced with your cloud account again, and it won’t redownload it again in the future unless you tell it to.

This applies to both Steam and MSStore version.

My theory?

MSFS is a MMO (Massively Multiplayer Online) simulator. A DAW doesn’t have that online component so there is no need to keep everyone in sync with each other.

Here is an example of what happens when Asobo does NOT reset settings: They release MSFS on XBOX and everyone who has used an XBOX controller on PC has the wrong default profile for their controller, even in XBOX because their PC controller settings are saved to the cloud. So, to fix the issue, folks have to launch MSFS on their PC (some might need to reinstall it on PC) and switch their XBOX controller setting to default. That issue could have also been solved by Asobo just resetting all XBOX controller profiles for everyone to default.

A DAW wouldn’t ever need to communicate cross platform to another of its profiles to keep things synced.

And Asobo is stuck between a rock and a hard place here. Because resetting settings is annoying… but SO is NOT resetting settings when things change enough to cause compatibility issues between platforms if defaults are not reset.

Thanks…it is STILL ANNOYING!

Regarding steam cloud settings… I think that only pertains to games that follow steams framework and makes their settings compatible with that. I doubt MS/Asobo did that.

Welcome to the wet and wild world of flight sims. We’re in the boat with you…
