why is market place greyed out
Did you verify your online services are still turned on in Game/Options/Data?

Moved to Menus & Activities which is more appropriate 
You may be having connectivity issues, or there could be something wrong with your sim.
I think the support FAQ has some tips on how to resolve this.
Most likely you are offline. Check in the upper right hand corner (main menue, after sim start) if you are still online. You can also change the online status there, if offline switch back to online.
This happens from time to time that the sim switches itself to offline.
