Why is MSFS 2024 Not Working in the UK?

UK based, now both 2020 and 2024 are suffering severe bandwidth issues, Crikey, looks like i’ll have to install XPlane 12 again…

I’m seriously considering going back to FSX  That was the best performing sim for me.

Can confirm cannot connect or play from the UK. But if I connect through NordVPN to a Canadian location, MSFS2024 is much more stable and near-seamless.

Connect to Dublin , its a lot closer to home then Canada!

Has there actually been any confirmation from MS/Asobo which says they’re aware that UK users are literally unable to play? I’m just counting (and praying) on the fact that they are aware despite no confirmation, otherwise these issues might extend into next week…

Not as far as we are aware; But give them credit - their communication is null overall, so we are all pretty much in the dark of what they know don’t know are working/not working on. Or, reading the 3 sentences at the top - they are aware of everything and thousands of people are working 24/7 fixing this…

Managed to finally set-up profile.

The UK scenery was mostly blurry. I can’t believe what they’ve done with keyboard bindings and what on earth have they done to the Velocity One settings. One button switches the engine on, the other switches it off. All the other keys are blank. So many of the useful features available in-flight are gone. So much of the UI terminology that made learning FS2020 a fast process is all gone.

I’m going back to 2020 for a few months. MSFS 2024 is an omnishambles.

Yes they will be aware, I can guarantee my house on it and its not just a UK issue, its an EU issue, Germany have also seen and have similar issues so its going to be something to do with routing / content caching CDN issues and replication.

If you really want to know a little about how the MS network works, they have Datacenters in key countries connected with different routes: Azure global infrastructure experience.
Now there are 2 in the UK, south and west, Germany also has one. France has one but I believe seems to be working (could be wrong on that) but Ireland also has one near Dublin and that is working so VPN’ing into Dublin will route you into the Dublin datacenter and you will have a working SIM which is close by so faster speeds for the graphic streaming etc…

This is all temporary while they resolve the DC’s that are not working correctly for XYZ reasons, THIS IS NOT A UK ONLY THING!

I’m working off Discord chat last night suggesting USA and Canada were working for people. It’s obviously a very fluid situation. Ironically I still got decent pings and 400+mbps through a Canadian VPN. But, I’ll give Dublin a try.

I would just like to say this " Terrible UK downloading speed for 2024 " is not new, 2020 was also rubbish. 2020 downloaded the WU at a speed of 8 Mbps for me, I switched to “Denmark streaming” using VPN and the speed jumped up to 65 Mbps … close to maxing out.

It may not be Microsoft’s fault for the poor download speed someone explained, it could be, nodes, or your provider, or another problem.
BUT what I do know nothing has been done in 4 YEARS to address the problem and today proves that very point!

Just been flying for an hour no VPN UK VMedia. good upto now, smooth no blurrys, consistent. Sometimes plane audio doesn’t load when starting flight, but that sounds like a bug.

But a VPN still goes through your ISP to a DC then routes from VPNs DC to Azure DC - depending on location, the route may not be that totally different if you picked UK VPN location for example. This would point to UK servers being at issue - in 2020 just like in 2024 today

Here in the UK I have worked out the optimum time for flying conditions. It’s between 4:30am and 9:00am. Between these times (My wife is threatening divorce) I can get into and play a substandard (blocky graphics etc) version of the sim. So far I am halfway through training. After this time the chances of you joining the 97% club and the Low Bandwidth Army (for reference, my home internet speed barely drops below 500/450mb) increases exponentially and all the loading problems ensue.

For the love of Zeus Asobo/Microsoft increase your server capacity, stop counting pennies and start counting digital pilots!

Same for me here in Belfast.

It’s the same for everyone in the UK. They just haven’t fixed the servers.

so if I VPN to another country, such as USA, it’ll be a much better experience?

Jeezus! My FPS was low even with no assets loading. Id hate to think what it would’ve been like with everything loaded!!

Refunded.

Same here, I managed two flights this morning over what looked like lego, now I’m back to low bandwidth and can’t even get in a plane.

Yep, same here in North Lancashire. I have a 1Gb connection and haven’t had a suucessful flight yet. Repeatedly have to use Task manager to close the programme as the ‘ESC to desktop’ just locks up. Probably will walk away and hope it’s fixed by Xmas (not sure what year!)

Try VPNing closer - I had great success with Dublin.

Shocking that we need to add a VPN subscription to the cost of MSFS 2024
