They thought they could save money by not increasing server capacity and just waiting for demand to reduce. The amount they will likely issue in refunds will probably be less than the cost of increased server resources to meed demand. That’s possibly a commercial decision that they’ve made. Also knowing that many people will likely buy it again later even after a refund.
Recent update. I did a VPN to a dedicated server in the US and tried the install again. It didn’t look promising but when I came back in a half hour or so I was at the starting page. I managed to fly around the Alicante area (after figuring out the bindings for my yoke and rudder pedals) and it was smooth and lovely. I then tried the Grand Canyon in VR which was stunning but my bindings did not work so had to do them over. Next was a flight around London which was a bit choppy but the scenery looked good. Finally, I flew around Monument Valley and ended up over Lake Powell, followed the Colorado River down to the Grand Canyon. Flight characteristics seem wonderful. I’d rate the experience at about 7 because of some glitches and inconsistent scenery but flying through canyons in VR with amazing detail on the walls is pretty cool.

VPN hasn’t helped you? I’m literally searching now for deals at proton, nord, etc. Feels a crime to pay £10 to workaround this, but definitely won’t if it’s temperamental. What’s your experience been?
3 days in finaly got in to the sim set up , it said it knows me set up flight hanging , reset followed by 2 CTD lots of heat from computer then it restarted my comp , i have turned to the bottle and given up today!

VERY temperamental, I’ve had “some” luck loading a flight connected via VPN but 9/10 out of 10 low bandwidth messages, very slow loading into aircraft and then all textures unloaded. I wouldn’t waste your time mate but up to you, everyone might have different experience.

It is also not working in The Netherlands, I only see black earth without textures. My god, how many days we have to wait? Come on…

I might try a reinstall while using VPN set to USA but it seems not the best way to go. Some have said you need to have your location and time set correctly on your computer to download properly. Is having a VPN necessary? I’m not convinced. I am in Canada with a very high end computer and only got into the game once on PC. I was prompted to reboot and now it freezes at 60% world data but keeps playing the very nice loop video heating up hardware unnecessarily.

I’ve filed a support ticket for what it’s worth (here), I don’t get the impression these forums are being read by anyone on the team. The comms on this whole thing is shocking.

Absolutely disgraceful release. Whoever greenlit this to be released in this state without adequate stress testing should be sacked. Along with many other UK people, I struggled yesterday with the 98% loading issue, when I finally got it, I was stuck on the Customise Identity page (and I still can’t change it - I get the spinny white circle of despair if I click on that), have not seen a single airplane or runway in over 5 hours of ‘game’ time. If I try to Fly Now from anywhere, I get a partial zoom in, irritating wind noise and a spinning circle for eternity. Career mode is a bust, zooms to airport and then does nothing. All on a high-end PC and Virgin Media fibre connection.

I meantioned above , Proton are having a deal , £1 for a month then full price after month ends. i signed up , got deal , then instantly cancelled, you still get the remainder of month to use.

I believe I have a fix for those playing on Xbox!
I used a free VPN app on my phone to connect to a different country then loaded the game up on Xbox Cloud Gaming on my phone, this let me past the customize identity screen and into the game.
Closed down cloud gaming, booted up my Xbox and it’s working for me!
Anyone in the UK have this working without a VPN?

Why should you have to install a VPN and pay extra to play a sim that you have already forked a lot of money on… So glad I did not get this on release… happy with 2020 for now.
