The honest to gods truth, I really haven’t experienced it yet. I was one of the lucky ones who actually got in first day. I went to fire up a bush trip, only to find they were removed. So I logged out and filed the forum thread, and then I couldnt get back in for 2 days. When I finally did get back in, I tried a discovery flight, only to find my HOTAS didn’t work with default settings and I crashed. I then went and setup the HOTAS, went to do a flight, but crashed taxiing because the rudder settings didn’t work on my HOTAS (fixed in last weeks patch I read). I never learned how to fly with a controller, so I gave up.
Its been almost a month. I have found other things to do, and when bush flights return, then I will get to try out the engine.
What holds you back from taking the navlog of the bushtrip from 2020 and fly it in 2024, I guess the airports are still there and the headings and distances are the same…the world did not change.
It is really a nuisance that nothing has happened in this matter to date. I have now tried to create some BTs for FS 2024, but with massive limitations. I can offer 5 trips over Germany that you can fly and that you are welcome to try: https://flightsim.to/file/20289/discover-germany-part-1
You can find the links to the other 4 parts on the page for part 1.
People tend to say a lot of fake things. I’m in my 60’s though, so I say things as they are. So believe me when I tell you, you are my hero.
All I do is bush trips. Thats the only activity I really like. And I have been dying with 2024 waiting for them to finsh the bush trip code, which doesn’t look like it will be SU2 or later. So this means the world to me to finally be able to do what I love. Thank you!
All that is doing is flying a flight plan. Many of the bush trips, they are planes that don’t even have any navigation systems. You are supposed to read the navigation log, go for a heading and the time to get to destination, look for the described landmark, then go to the next destination from that point. I remember the Nevada bush trip, you have to fly to a dam, and I kept looking and looking and looking for the dam. And it turned out, the sim rendered the dam like it was a pile of rocks. But that is what a bush trip is, you are supposed to use VFR navigation to do the trip. Not just follow a flight plan.
Part of the beauty of bush trips is, someone has scripted it for you. There is generally one jaw dropping moment from them. For example, the Iceland bush trip, you take off from the island city Ven(something). Its dark when you take off, which is bizarre for a bush trip. But then you fly along the one volcano, and as you clear the volcano, you see why they scheduled the trip to take off in the dark. Because the sun is just rising over the Iceland horizon. The sun suddenly streams into the cabin of the plane. And you look at it, and it is absolutely gorgeous. I flew that trip 3 years ago, but I STILL remember it. Just flying a flight plan, that doesn’t give you the scripting that someone took the time to do.
It is extremely doubtful. I have talked to a few of the third party developers. None of them have got any update on the status of bush trips in the sim. None have been asked to test anything. Nothing has been updated in the SDK for bush trips. There has been literally no activity, at least as far an we can tell. One of the developers tried to add a bush trip for 2024. It had to be limited more so than what you could do in 2020. There will likely have to be 2 different promo videos for WU Brazil. One for 2020 that can list the 3 bush trips. And one for 2024 that leaves bush trips out of the deliverables.
Iceland was one of the Bush trips I hadn’t got round to flying yet, but seeing your comment I started the trip on 2020 earlier this week - absolutely stunning and like you said, a perfect example of how the Bush trips are such a unique experience. Thank you for the recommendation.
I’m on Xbox so have given up on 2024 for the time being, as it’s almost unplayable with SU1 beta. I’ve gone back to flying the Bush trips I haven’t yet completed in 2020 and it’s been fantastic (and much less frustrating/stressful). Hopefully we’ll get the activities in 2024 soon but 2020 is still so good I’m more than content with working through the Bush trips there for now.
Do you have any other Bush trips recommendations which I might have missed?
I recommend them all. But the France one, just expect that it is going to be a little more challenging than all the others. It starts out, the very first landing you do, there is a low cloud right on your approach to the runway. From there things dont get any easier, there are grass strips with inclines on mountains, Meribel, and Courchevel. Asobo was asked to tone down the skill requirement for bush trips after that one to make sure bush trips were accessible to everyone… lol. That one is one of my favorites too.
Ah yes the French trip is one of my favorites too, and actually inspired a real life visit to the alps. Loved the whole trip but it also pushed my patience to the limits with the Notre Dame de la Salette landing strip in particular - I think it took me around 6 attempts before landing successfully on that one! Really challenging but also very rewarding. Nothing I’ve experienced in 2024 career mode comes close to the same balance of challenge and enjoyment of this kind of Bush trip imo.
I’m hoping that the Brazil update will at least give us some additional Bush trips for 2020, fingers crossed!
