Wilga Mach Loop - Group Flight & "Semi-Racing" Fun Event

Wilga [by Got Friends] - The Mach Loop Event

I’ve never done anything like organising an EVENT before but how about this?!

A chance for us all to get our Willys out and try and maximise the performance of the plane relative to each other. It’s about what you can do with the machine under you, everyone has the same but can you find a good line, momentum and pass everyone without killing your engine? “Engine Realism” on please!

This is not affiliated with Got Friends, just saying

  • AIRCRAFT: Wilga 35X or 80X
  • MEET: Llanbedr [EGFD]
  • WHEN: Sunday 5th March 2023 at 13:00Z (GMT)
  • SERVER: West Europe
  • REGISTER: Post your name here or just turn up a little before the time and we’ll see you there.
  • FUEL: 100% filled
  • LIVERY: Any DEFAULT livery (important so we see each other)
  • ENGINE REALISM: On (please)
  • FLIGHT PLAN: Meet and wait at EGFD (map and entry plan below). When we are all together, fly and circle around the GROUP ENTRY point. When we are all ready there, we start the loop!
  • RACE: Unlimited laps but let’s just have fun! Get back to Llanbedr when we are near running out of fuel :flight_arrival: :fuelpump: :flight_departure: - if we want, go again! Nothing strict, just some stunts’racin’n’fun

I have created a Discord channel to chat in more detail and to use the Voice Chat (called Radio Channel) during the event to make it more fun, interactive and be able to synchronise the “ready to go” moment better!

All welcome - we already have a few pilots signed up with their Wilga’s ready.
I guess you CAN join with other similar aircraft if you don’t own the Wilga (if not, why not!) but preferable that you use the Wilga (35X or 80X) so we all have the same machine.

Unfortunately I’m out at this time but hopefully it all goes down well and someone can share a video or two.

I have never done this and want to, real bad. I’ve put this in my calendar and will try to make it. I’ve been flying the Wilga all over and love it.

That’s great to hear! I look forward to seeing you there. Feel free to join my Discord if you want to chat or have a test run before then!

I am just testing some mods that may be useful and will be making a little post update here before I go to bed tonight

SOME FURTHER INFO

Reminder to set full fuel tanks and engine realism on. I want us all to have the same bird under us and see who can maximise what Wilma can do without blowing the engine!

Hopefully West Europe SERVER will be fine that day but best if you all join the Discord so you will know in case we need to change.

Useful Mod

If you are unfamiliar with the course, I have been checking out a couple of the freeware Mach Loop addons that could be useful to assist you. Not as actual objects to race through (it’s not really meant to be a race. Just some fun. If it turns into a “fly in random valleys in Wales together” that’s all good!) but as help to follow the route maybe. I think if you get lost you will be able to find the herd again though.

I have the Orbx Fun With Friends which I sometimes install (but I do know the course inside out without it) which follows the Mach Loop perfectly.

I tried the Lord Frites one which is great for a more competitive event but the rings are small to aim through and crash you, so could be annoying.

The Granitsky one is PERFECT for us though. Marks the course without getting in the way. As an added bonus there is an airport right by the start so if you crash out and need to rejoin, you can spawn there and save the trip from Llanbedr!

Here it is. I will keep this installed:

If you don’t want to install, maybe these screenshots will help…

From the airport we will be coming from the ocean on the west, down the river south of Llanbedr, you will see a little village (Penmaenpool) at the foot of the hill. Back around behind that hill (facing south west again) is the entry. Look for this “scooped” valley:

…then turn left before the lake, and follow the valleys / road. You will get to another small village (Machynlleth) on the right and turn left before you get to it:

…into a long wider stretch following the river. A slight left turn near the end of that and you will see this hill with dark trees on only the left side. That is a good landmark…

…reach that and turn left keeping this very dark hill on your left.

Another small kink left then it forks off to end the loop up the valley on the right.

Hug that hill on the left to go back to the entry point for another lap.

I look forward to seeing everyone there!

Would be great if someone can do some recording. My machine can’t handle it!

@Baracus250 - The addon you recommended above is very good. As one who had never run the mach loop previously, it was exremely helpful. Thank you for the tip.

I love flying the Mach Loop in everything from a piper to an F15 to the 737…. :). I may just join you!!!

Update: I just noticed this is a 5am for me…. Hmmmm, shall I set my alarm?

Oh man… I will try and do it later in the day next time!
But you could join, then go for a powernap afterwards!

Not sure if you all seen but there has been an update to the Wilga released just now.

v1.0.7

Probably not critical, but better if we are all on same version I guess!

Do you have any similar aircraft to recommend for this event for people who don’t own a Wilga?

Hey. Good question.
Actually thinking about it more, I am nervous to allow anything else except maybe DEFAULT small light aircraft and then only with DEFAULT liveries. I don’t want everyone else to see an Airbus replacement model (or whatever) as that will look weird! It still can be a problem if users have deleted any default planes though.

However, it’s only my first event so we can try and I may change my mind for the NEXT event (if there is one!).

So the list would be only:

  1. Robin Cap10
  2. CubCrafter XCub
  3. Flight Design CTSL
  4. Zlin Savage Cub
  5. Icon A5

Question though: why HAVEN’T you got the Wilga? It is AWESOME

EDIT: also means you won’t see US as Wilgas… who knows what will happen!

I love GA, but the wilga can’t carry enought for my missions so if I buy it, he ll probably stay in my hangar :disappointed_relieved: as I found more benefit to fly my king air or caravan :-/ and got few other aircraft to focus on before buying news ones

Hi! I’m planning the next event for Sunday 19th March. What time would be best for you to make it this time?

Oh hey, I live on the Pacific Coast of Canada (Vancouver Island), so after after 1300 UTC (8am PDT) works on the early end. :). Thanks for the consideration and invite.
